Bravo, point taken
Maybe coherency regen bros should understand how slots system works
Two Toughness Curios and 1 Stamina Curio helps alot.
Maybe you should try seeing what it does in game on ogryn, like the guys that made the ogrynomicon have, they listed as good for a reason, they know what they are doing and have a ton of experience on whats good and whats bad

The guys who made Ogrynomicon also recommend putting Infested on Karsolas, lmao. If it’s well-designed it doesn’t mean everything is correct. Maybe try to test everything yourself instead of relying on other people’s opinions
Ehh, I mean you’re not wrong OFC (e:re:tuf gen) , but you guys (4-5 of you buddies here?) are also looking at through a different set of glasses, duos for instance. Most of these discussions are targeted to an average-to-good 4 player group.
(e:outside of TUF gen)
Worth repeating, and I know yous hate to hear it, VoC, Bruiser, stuff like that is coherency based so for the average-good group there’s value in not always being away from group for proccing stuff. Doesn’t mean you have to be joined at the hip, and you shouldn’t, but it also doesn’t mean 2 rooms ahead is helpful in a pug.
It’s really mostly 1 guy…
We are discussing coherency toughness regen which is disabled most of the time unlike other coherency buffs
Yeah I got it, I was making a tangential point.
Strongest class in the game even after getting nerfed every patch.
It’s a bit boring because it’s way too tough. For example it doesn’t have the least toughness, you can stack toughness curios and nodes and it has basically the best base and effective toughness while still having the highest health pool.
I guess it’s a bit more rare to see because gameplay feels very different to other classes which is imo a good thing, but might not be to everyone’s taste. I think it’s super easy to get a hang on, but I have a feeling that proficency in other classes might not translate too well to ogryn (apart from sliding everywhere, but that’s just the game).
I have the same issue with the Psyker, which I find to be weak. However, with that I know my limitations with it and that I’m adequate at best but more usually a disaster. Other people, though, can dance in the flames of warpfire, treading the razor thin line between sanity and risking perils of the warp, being - as I saw one person put it this morning on Reddit - more cannon than glass.
On top of that, and what I think may be exacerbating your feelings, are the Ogryn penances being absolute slogs. They really tested my patience with them, like Onslaught and Pick On Someone Your Own Size. When you have your team ‘interfering’ - which is fine, they’re just playing the game - with your attempts to get the penances, it gets rage-inducing. The 5k kills with x5 stacks of Heavy Hitter nearly made me blow a gasket. I threw more than a fair few curses at my monitor, as only an old Guardsman can.
Shhhh don’t tell them. It might destroy their entire world view.
which is what i do, i use that on my curios and its great. play mostly aurics and its a life saver sometimes, a must need perk on curios, which again is why its listed as good in the ogrynomicon, because experienced players have used it and test it in game.
The strongest and easiest class probably, if you are not an ogryn irl. Ogryn just can’t die. Take x3 hp on curios cause his starting HP pool is big, toughness will not make big difference against ranged anyway and with his talentes it’s easy to keep toughness at 100% so you can avoid any HP damage in melee, and x3 gunners resist. All toughness regen on hit talents, Bully club with Haymaker to oneshot elites and specials frequently, i prefer MK 1. Rumbler for more control or kickback for a quick draw and kill focus.
Whenever anyone is struggling with ranged enemies with any class, especialy with melee focused builds means they don’t use slide enough.
Spam slide, spam heavies, spam rumbler or kickback, use charge for reposition or control aswell.
Also remember that ogryn is uninterruptible, it’s easier for him to do hacks (ironically) and revives.
Not to beat a dead horse here, but I’ll repeat and elaborate.
Any guide pinned on a game launcher or given a semi-official seal-of-approval doesn’t necessarily mean much, it’s an incestuous relationship as someone put it here once, this one in particular. It is basically promo and filler material and should be weighted as such. Half the stuff in there is questionable at best, e.g. anything with Unlucky bullet since #13 or even after its re-work. There have been some truly awful pinned guides since #13, you’re assigning weight behind these “guides” that’s not really warranted.
Ogryn is the most fun. For me, my build is Bonk Stick + Heavy Stubber. Melee is single target focus and Range is trash/suppression. Grenade or Rock for heh.
I like Ogryn because you rarely get stuck, each hit sends ragdolls all over the place and you have generous amounts of Toughness. I you do find yourself stuck you can usually push dodge your way out.
Players like to follow Ogryn around because we are moving cover, we can soak the hits while they forehead on the keyboard.
TIPS:
- Dodge often, try to open fire lanes for teammates.
A big issue for an Ogryn can be blocking LoS for teamates, if you find yourself peppers by a vet all game they could be non-verbally communicating with you to move out of their LoS (because they are the main character). Try to telegraph your movement drag left or right to give openings for teamates to support.
- Drop everything and assist when a fellow Ogryn goes down, consider dropping everything to help the little ones, but clean up first(JK).
Ogryns do not get staggers when reviving, this is very important as your role isn’t defined as a medic but you have the sustain to get players up. The more you assist your teammates the more they will start to point our grenades or ammo and stay nearby.
- Stack toughness, not Kills.
The only thing an Ogryn should primarily focus on is having 100% Toughness, 100% of the time. This will allow them to peel when someone goes down and also attract the most enemies. Make sure you have a way to build toughness on hit, or else you might have to walk around with a shield.
- Knock Stuff over, Stagger.
To piggy back on the last note, you want to stagger the Elites. Most Ogryn Heavies can knock a Mauler on their a$$. Most Melees weapons have a fun “special melee” that can slap or cause a debuff. Setup the mobs by staggering/suppressing or slapping them with a five finger death punch.
- Biggest get Biggest Pile of Ammo
Double check if the vet is trigger happy before picking something up, and also keep an eye on that zealot, the one that has the pistol, they tend to inhale anything on the ground that looks like bullets. I like to point out everything small and then pray to the emperor I find a Red Bag when I am almost on empty.
- When Leading, double check who is behind (if you can)
In general, I like to turn around to see if people are still scavenging when exiting a big area. The best way to group up a team is find an Item half the team fancies, ping it and wait nearby, This will naturally bring the group back before advancing.
- Remember you are an Ogryn. They do not know many multisl- multislsls- multisllibi
Multisyllabic words. Have fun in Chat. This is the most important tip! Just have fun! Let the little ones huff and puff.
Hope this helps, pal!
I think Ogryn feels great to play when you stop playing him like other character types and treat it as it’s own beast.
A lot of the time, I compare it to playing a grappler in fighting games, unlike Zealot, Psyker or Veteran, you do not have any reliable options for long ranged combat, suppression will make your heavy stubber fly all over the place but your giant health pool is extremely useful for recovering from damage that’d otherwise be pretty bad for other classes, letting you power through enemy melee attacks to deliver your own.
Don’t sprint if you don’t have to. Save your stamina, Ogryn has some of the strongest pushes and blocks in the game, but weak dodges, so blocking and pushing ends up being a more reliable option in big fights against multiple ragers or other Ogryns since you’re more likely to knock them down.
The best piece of advice though? Remember it’s a team game, if you don’t have shield, you’re going to get shredded in big open firefights, don’t push something you KNOW you can’t/shouldn’t win.
I like him.
But I also think his talent tree can be boiled down to taking both toughness regen on heavy attack nodes and if you want to take the bleed talent or not.
No matter what build you have, you’re between 2-5 points from grabbing both +25 toughness nodes and I think anyone new to Ogryn should. I think putting 4 points into keystones is always over-committing and that you can get the full affect from any of them with 2-3 points. I’ll post a pic of my girthiest build when I get home, but it’s possible to have more toughness and hp than anyone while not sacrificing a keystone. Also never pick Crunch.
Go to the psykanium > jump into the meatgrinder > learn your attack combos. Recently been watching streams of newer players taking meta advice and not being able to apply it because they don’t know weapons like the Branx pickaxe have looping combos that are better for different situations. Also been seeing a lot of people pushing but not knowing to push-attack and follow up with a heavy or light attack.
Always be ulting. Press S to cancel an ult charge so you don’t bury yourself.
Rock and frag nade need no explanation, but box o’ hurt isn’t a bad CC tool for stalling death blobs, rescuing downed teammates, and does decent enough damage to bosses if placed well (as in, don’t throw it at a traitor captain or monster running away from you so the delayed explosions hit them).
But, yeah, I do enjoy being Ogryn. He can be the tankiest class in game, but only if you’re paying attention to your positioning and making an effort to control mobs to be in front instead of letting them surround you and being too shy to dodge-slide to avoid bullets and nets.
It’s hard to call him weak when half of his melee is more than capable to deal with every enemy in groups and capable of hit trading while being gunned down. He doesn’t have a bolter to kill absolutely everything in a single clip, but all of his guns can split hordes apart. Can’t even say his monster damage outside of gunlugger builds is that bad either.
Edit: I’m home and have pics
that’s 2 toughness curios and 1 HP curio
and just for kicks here’s three toughness curios and all toughness nodes while still getting one point into a keystone.
