I feel like the last updates are focusing on players who like challenges (Havoc) or low-level/levelling players (MT). I am not sure what statistics are, but from my POV, most of my friends are neither. I hope for upcoming patches FS is cooking something for Auric enjoyers (me included). Or is it just me, and Auric enjoyers are finding enjoyment in those alternatives?
PS: I recognise that a similar topic is already posted (provided below), but I would say it is more about why you are turning the game on and not the difficulty.
The major issue I have with this update is that Fatshark really needed to add at least one more weapon to the game with the update.
Preferably, one human weapon shared among the three classes, and one Ogryn weapon, so that we could experiment with the new shootie/stabbie until the next content release.
I like Mortis Trials; I’ve completed the 25-minute penance and am about finished with the 50-match penance, but again the update needed to add new weaponry.
The addition of multiple game modes and difficulty levels only serves to further divide the player base, bringing nothing but negative consequences.
Auric was introduced for advanced players who were not satisfied with Standard, and Maelstrom was created for those among them who sought even more challenging gameplay. However, for some reason, Havoc was added on top of that. At this point, I have no idea what Fatshark is trying to accomplish.
to be frank, Standard and Auric are more than enough. a tricky game mode with various gimmicks and modifiers like Havoc should have simply been incorporated into Maelstrom.
instead of allocating development resources to unnecessary additions, they should focus on what nearly all players are asking for a new weapons, maps, enemies, and bosses.
let’s conduct a survey asking whether players want improvements to Havoc or new weapons. I’m certain that over 95% of players would choose new weapons.
I turn the game on to play a mission or two, mostly with friends. What would excite us the most are new maps or changes to classes(specifically new classes).
I agree with the weapon part (or it could be map/auric modifier/new class, etc.).
I find Mortis Trials fine. For me they are a bit slow-paced, and there are not enough enemies. If Fatshark ever decides to add another class or they create an incentive for creating a fifth character, I will love Mortis Trials. But now I cannot make myself break the build to make Mortis Trials thrilling.
The games incredibly stale and the sad thing is we probably have to wait until july for another update which is actually hilarious. Im drowning in resources the least they could do is give me something to spend them on. Tbh ive done everything there is to do in darktide and cant wait for something else to play. Well get an update july ill play with new weapons till september then ill start playing borderlands 4 and stop playing darktide for awhile. Its not like I’ll be missing anything at most well get a map and like two or 3 new weapons cuz thats usually how these things go. Once you have played hundreds and hundreds of hi shock missions they get boring and many of us have maxed out penance points and everything in the game god rolled and full mastery. We actually dont have anything to do and havoc is basically impossible to engage with.
Considering the time needed for matchmaking (few seconds) and the number of games in havoc (few), I would say that Auric is the popular game mode.
Mortis Trial is a great addition, especially for casual or new players.
Tbh, for Auric, this is what I would want:
I was going to speculate, but it seems like, err … Kicking a dead horse when it’s down.
New weapons would be nice, but I’d rather have weapon retoolings.
Better fewer, more interesting and better-balaced weapons than more weapons that are less-differentiated and poorly balanced.
Hmm … Or something like the above Elite Resistance. Or an improving “retooling” of enemies in general, or of sliding and blocking. Or a balance pass on certain Abilities. Lots of possibilities.
I think DT’s basic gameplay is pretty damn good, but it’s let down by some flaws. It could be so much better.
This is true. But it’s far easier with a more static, single player game that you can mod.
With a game like DT its aggravating. Rather than simply enjoying all the banquet’s offerings you’re continually sniffing plates, to see what’s gone off.
What exactly are you asking for? I don’t even get how people ask for more difficulty options still. Most video games you get easy, medium and hard. In Darktide there is five difficulty options and then multiple variations of those five difficulty option. They just came out with a trial mode meant for the NON sweat crowd. Don’t like Malice? Heresy. Heresy too hard? Malice. Malice too easy? Hi intensity. Hi intensity too hard? Low intensity. Heresy too easy? Damnation. Damnation too hard? Heresy Hi Intensity. I could go on all day.
Leveling up I spent 40+ hours in malice/heresy just to ensure I can properly play damnation and not die every 5 minutes. Majority of you new players expect to come in here at 30 hours, beat the hardest missions in the game and then move onto the next game like you have with the last 30 game purchases. This game is an entirely difference experience.
I treated this as an actual journey, working my way up from literally knowing nothing and dying every 5 minutes in malice to being able to obliterate mass amounts of elites/specials/enemies on the hardest missions in this game. In order to achieve that you have to practice and work at it which means realizing you aren’t nearly as good at video games as you first thought.
I completely agree with this. This post is not about difficulty. On the contrary, I think Fatshark is adding niche difficulties, and the game is getting stale for me (and I think most people) because they are adding those difficulties and not content that could be enjoyed by everyone on the whole spectrum of skills.
getting new modifiers in auric should help. id like to see high intensity and high shock being always on the board and some rotation of the metric don of modifiers they added lately into it as well
Short answer: Most games don’t have the potential replay value of DT.
Longer answer:
Look at VT2. FS added Cataclysm. Plus there’s Twitch and the modded difficulties, which allow players to make the game arbitrarily difficult. (Note the player agency.)
DT has the Aurics, which might be liked to Cata - though I suspect many would say the Aurics are easier. Then there’s Havoc, which is difficult, but is more like the deeply-unpopular Weaves than Twitch or modded difficulties. Some players get a lot of value from Weaves/Havoc, but those modes remain a non-starter for even more. Or at least more vocal players.
There are a bunch of players who want those Auric+ difficulties because they’re not on a journey which they’re OK with ending, they’re playing a challenging game they’d like to remain challenging … but not aggravating. So exactly how the difficulty is achieved becomes important.
You can do it like modded VT2, where the player controls it … or you can do it via Havoc, where much of the challenge is the Party Finder. It’s different.
Also: Havoc has deranking. I hear the Hague gets hundreds of complaints a day. Hundreds!
