I’d be down. We have plenty of “Bite the pillow and sweat your balls off” modifiers in Havoc and non-Havoc missions, so having a few “Horde clear and chill” modifiers would be a nice treat.
Heck, we could lean a little more into the ‘chill’ and add some of those player buffs in prior events like the increased ammo or improved stamina/stim effects.
Reapers that are immune to suppression and whose bullet hits prevent dodge slide/ADS for 5s.
Gunners that strafe faster while in volley mode, go into volley twice as frequently, don’t do melee at close quarters and whose volley hits prevent dodge slide for 5s.
Ragers that don’t go into easily dodgeable animation chain attack and have double attack speed with double movement speed.
Snipers with double attack speed.
Shotgunners that don’t stagger unless it’s Ogryn melee and don’t go into melee combat at close quarters.
Tox Bombers whose grenade smoke dissapears twice as fast but heals allies
every since the game came out on consoles its turned into dark trickle and gunner spam. gunners are the easiest way to keep the “difficulty” with minimal amount of models on screen.
In regular Auric High-intensity games, specials spawn ever other second. They are more common than Pox Walkers. This is silly.
I don’t mind fewer and stronger enemies. In fact I kinda like it with the current Indomitable Incursion event. And if fewer enemies is what it takes to support low-end consoles, so be it. But Specials ought to be few and far between.
Every time a Special spawns, that’s a missed opportunity to spawn an Elite.
And the Specialists all require sound cues for effective counterplay with how much goes on at once in Darktide, spawn too many and it’s just a ball of death that encourages those AOE weapons like Inferno everyone loves so much (sarcasm) and punishes melee players disproportionately hard.
That’s basically just telling people to stop playing purge staff or bleed grenade builds, when those would actually be so much fun to fight your way through an endless horde with. Why would we want to not be able to play the most satisfying horde clear builds in an infinite horde mode? It makes no sense. You’d just play something like move speed veteran or zealot if you wanted to melee through it, because the psyker can’t really keep up with you for most of the map if he’s holding down mouse1.
Theres so many other options that would excel in this but they would all be overshadowed by the same stuff everyone uses everywhere else anyway because its that strong. Chainsword, heavy sword, evis, IIb bolter, brautos, cleavers, all of these lesser used options and more, that do really well here would not get any attention because people will just hold onto the same stuff they always do otherwise, defeating the entire point of the mode having a change in gameplay. It wouldn’t be fun, itd be incredibly boring.
