It could be really cool to have a weekly or month community mission like : kill millions ennemis, win thousands missions, etc…
If we succeed, each player who participate could receve something (good weapon, materials, or a little premium currency)
If we fail, we could receve a message telling us that Chaos grow up in the Hive city !
Something like that would create a nice community cohesion and would be more immersive ! We would be more involve in this war, trying to eradicate those heretics from Tertium !
If they really wanna go down the games as a service route, this is the kind of stuff that’s gonna have to be included continually.
Also things like seasons with unlockable milestones, Events, holidays, etc.
Someone awhile ago tied it into the idea of timed modifer spams awhile ago, and I thought it was a great idea. Say for example over the
Week or Weekend, the community has to kill a certain amount of Pox Hounds or Demon Poxhounds when increased hunting ground modifier is up. Elites/Specials for Shock Troop Gauntlet, Snipers for Sniper Gauntlet, missions completed for Vent Purge or Power Outage. Depending on how often they happen, they wouldn’t even need cosmetic rewards, just dockets and crafting materials.
Personally I think it would be fun to see them every week or every other week but that sems like a pipe dream at the moment.
We had that occasionally on Vermintide 2 to slay hundreds of millions of enemies, it was pretty cool.
Things like seasons and battlepasses and whatever usually make me stop playing entirely. Games get a real “treadmill” feel to them the moment they add this sort of stuff.
I like the idea of regular events though.
exactly this, penances they gave in last patch last for about 7-8 games. imagine getting challanges like that every week or month. mindblowing concept right?
What about how DRG does it, do you think that’s bad?
I don’t play DRG so I can’t comment on that, but I’ve never been exposed to a game that’s done it well enough to overcome that treadmill feeling.
From what I understand, DRG is an outlier in this space and does it a lot better than any other developer. To be frank, given the way the rest of the GaaS stuff has been applied here, I wouldn’t trust that a DT equivalent would be done in a way that would be compared to DRG favourably.
In DRG you get gemstones by doing missions and leveling up, and then they have a seasonal cosmetic tree that you can spend the gemstones on to branch out in different directions and unlock the stuff you think is interesting (with the assurance that anything you don’t unlock before the season ends will be added to the loot crate pool you find during missions sometimes, so nothing is ever lost).
That’d be fine I guess, since there’s not actually any hard pressure to unlock things in a limited time.
I doubt such a system would be implemented here, since cosmetics are basically the lifeblood of the monetisation strategy.
This is most likely what “Flash Missions” are suppose to be. they’ve been in Penances since release but never been mentioned or added yet.
I remember Warframe having these events in the beginning (not sure if they still do), but they were basically a single mission type with a community goal spanning a day or two, if the whole community got it, than everyone who contributed got a weapon/rare resource.
I think some of them were even VS events, where you had to pick one faction to assist and only the winning faction got a weapon, but I could be remembering incorrectly.
Stuff like that would be really nice for Darktide, especially if these are unique and special conditions, like a horde mode defense map, as Nurgle is trying to overwhelm certain points etc.
And best of all, just like Warframe, these events should further the story and make us feel like we’re moving forward in time.
Since the current grind mode is simply a never ending time-loop with no success in sight.
I love DRG, I think its a great game and I appreciate that all of their Battle Pass content is free for anyone to unlock it, without being able to buy levels etc.
However I feel much the same as you do with battlepasses, and DRG does very much fall into the treadmill, at least for me. You get daily missions with 3 being active at a time to get more experience. Which at times can make it feel like a chore. While you don’t need to be active for the whole season, or even most of it, to get it it does wear me down.
I would still support a system like that in Darktide if and only if there were no micro transactions involved. More content is great, and with the new penances I felt a reason to be playing a bit more. But we both know that would never happen.
