Infantry Lasguns

I agree on recoil. Especially cause I don’t understand why there is recoil on a laser gun (iis lore accurate or not covered by the lore?)

Increase DPS, yes if OP… oops I mean Meta weapons are left unchanged.

I am a little surprise cause I was thinking the XII was considered as the best. I use the Ia cause the IV is piou piou but not enough strong.
The XII does better damages, however the rate fire is slow. And the Ia can one shot any lesser enemies and several elites/specials and need 2 shots for armored enemies (If I remember well cause I did not use for 1 month). So at the end, in term of efficiently I think that the Ia is the right weapon to go.
However, my experience is that the XII deals more damages. So better against ogryns by example (reaper).

No it is not irrelevant. This is a rude post, but this guy is right
And you have to consider this when you speak about these weapons

However, if the “metas” are left unchanged, there are things to buff. I think that the balance should include nerfs of metas and buff for several weaker weapons (shotgun need more ammos, revolver same but need a nerf for hand cannon, tact axe are a little weak etc.).
I am not sure these weapons need a buff except the reduction of the current recoil that is too much
Especially cause you can avoid it. You just have to not aim. but it is annoying…

EDIT I mean by annoying that the lasgun are made to use the aim. So this is annoying to not be able to aim just to avoid the recoil that forbids you to correctly… aim

This video proves that the Mk IX/MG XII has lower DPS than both of the other Marks:

This especially hurts because you churn out more Crits with the other Marks’ higher RPM on top of their higher DPS, making the Mk IX/MG XII straight-up inferior to the others.

No, he’s just making assumptions founded on absolutely nothing about the playstyles of other users in this thread. I consider the topic relevant but not the dig itself.

also since we are talking about lasguns,
I remember the original animations of lasgun (when sprinting)
i liked how they were originally, because they were matching the third person animations.

here a video to remember how they used to look the original animations of lasguns, if someone wants to check.

note: this wasn’t only in the beta, but it was also in the official release, but later on they have been reworked. I personally liked more when we were sprinting like this.

even though the current one it is still nice in the end, because with the new current animation it makes so that we can get an advantage because of the flashlight and we can see in front. but i liked more the original ones.

i remember it had also a different animation inspect that got improved making it more dynamic with some motion also.

Would be better if we could take advantage of a bayonet instead…

Cause not having recoil at all for guns doesn’t feel great, especially with lower RoF, you need some impact and kick. Plus it adds depth, learning recoil patterns for guns works the same way you learn chains or attack types for melee.

As an option they can reduce beam spread for non-ads shooting and sway. So you will use ads only cause of zoom.

Also look at those animations - they are extremely distracting, gun heavily jumps back in your face and rotating along, slightly leaning.

MG la has almost the same damage but higher RoF, on top of that Mg la stability modifier stats are better.

I know. This is the main reason I don’t favor them. Recoil is giant.
Totally in favor of reducing it. It would be a giant buff for this gun tbh.

I actually think when the MK12 lasgun was the king of lasguns, the game was way more fun when it came to balancing. I wish we could go back to that. That was before you had so many different ways to 1 shot mutants and crushers

Infantry lasguns suffer mainly because in the current game, you are constantly surrounded by tons of elites and specialists and you need an agile and/or high dps weapon. Infantry lasguns are high risk low reward guns currently because they have abysmal bodyshot dps, poor precision in rapid fire, low mobility and a relatively big zoom/fov loss in ADS, which means that in the middle of the action, all the odds are against you. That’s also why Infantry lasguns aren’t so bad if you play difficulties lower than HISTG.

They also lost a lot of interesting beakpoints because most enemies got more HP lately, and if you want okay breakpoints with them, you need to invest so much for it in the talent tree that you lose all versatility.

For me, the lasguns need a boost in precision (lower recoil, too), and even a bit of aim assist like the revolver or the bolt pistol, so that you can score headshots more easily on fast close-range enemies, while you are dodging two dogs, and a trapper.

They also need a small buff in bodyshot damage so that you don’t need three to five shots to kill scab or dreg infantry when they duck/stagger/have the head hidden behind their arms. Because it’s honestly one of the most infuriating thing with the lasgun, the stagger and the suppression actively works against you when enemies duck, run in circles, hide and all around prevent you from scoring headshots, which is the only way to do decent damage with the weapon. It wasn’t much of an issue back in the day because the MGXII with executioner’s stance had a OHK breakpoint in bodyshots against at least scab and dreg shooters.

This post really hits close to my heart.

The Lasguns have always been my goto weapon in this game, and I don’t exaggerate when I say that it was the main reason I picked up this game. I wanted to live out my Guardsman fantasy.

Year one of this game, yeah, I was living the dream, but since then things have only gotten worse for the Kantrael Lasgun. I see absolutely no issue with immediately implementing all of @Khorne_Dawg 's ideas above.

Live by the Las, die by the Las.

Yeah, that was definitely a HUGE part of what made me a Veteran main so early on. Darktide was such a breath of fresh air for a lot of 40K fans because it wasn’t just another Astartes video game.

This is exactly what I mean. The Infantry Lasguns (in their current form) are a relic of a bygone era where they used to be great, but they’ve since failed to adjust to the times.

I’m definitely glad to see all of the overwhelming support for my suggestions! :blue_heart:

Just to throw a little extra fuel on the fire:

The lasgun is the most iconic, most used weapon by the Imperium of Man, hands down. We should make sure the weapon really has a place in this game, even if it isn’t the hardest hitting.

Also also: even though no one has mentioned it, the MK IIb Kantrael Lasgun. How is this weapon, almost 3 years in, still in that absolute mess? Sort that damned fire rate out.

One of the worst elements of these weapons I don’t see mentioned ITT is that of the 3 modes of attack the weapon could possibly have, 2 are wasted. The hipfire is absolute garbage even if it were more accurate because the weapon only does weakspot damage, and the special is a flashlight. But in general I think the suppression effect of enemies is what nails the coffin shut here, in the odd time you’d think you’d come into niche with this weapon returning fire on a bunch of gunhands its unable to aim at all without scier’s gaze/exe stance/determined node.

I won’t use it on any class except vet. Too dependent on talents to fix it. Although I am kinda ok with a signature vet weapon needing a vet to make it perform.

I did mention that a Bayonet would be preferable in a response!

Yeah, I do feel that it makes sense for the Infantry Lasguns to only reach their true potential with Veterans. Veterans are the only Archetype to have any real Lasgun experience and training prior to Darktide’s setting.

that’s correct, i’ve used a mk12 a lot with my vet back when i was playing on lower difficulties and we didn’t have the enemy density of today, and everyone recommended it … which is a long time ago.

I strongly agree. The Infantry Lasguns need to become much more reliable, versatile and used among Veterans.

You and I went into further detail about this on the Khornate Inn Discord Server, yeah. I think that reducing the Infantry Lasguns’ recoil (on top of giving them full auto) would make the Mk IIb/MG IV feel significantly less miserable to use.

I also believe that we should get burst fire Lascarbines, like the ones used by Scab Stalkers. Imagine a Mk IIb/MG IV Infantry Lasgun but with burst fire and a folded stock. Hel, maybe it could even be a “Braced” Las weapon due to said folded stock.

This was never true. These guns have had really high ADM on maniac at long range, they were mediocre against flak though, and relying so much on headshots, were very bad against maulers cuz carapace damage doesn’t exist.

Fair enough, let me add that i said it specialy cause of mutants and relatively for their HP pool.

Dealing with a blob of flak ragers or maulers isn’t a big thing cause they don’t disable and toss around your team. Aswell as you have other ways to stop them, like controling with frag nades for example, or take power sword to close that antiarmor role in your loadout.

But dealing with waves of muties, especialy Nurgle buffed while playing Maelstrom with infantry lasgun isn’t a pleasant expirience for sure. Not every location is a long hall where mute waves start coming from the other side.

Especialy it’s a horrible expirience in comparison with bolter or plasma, when you can just magdump or even stun mutes.

Call me crazy, but i always thought it was weird that las weapons has recoil.

But i guess they gotta have some kind of balance mechanic in there even if its inefficient.
