Hopefully, with the next update, all reviews get swapped over.

Before i bought the game i read a lot of review and most of them were about the crafting and loot system. For me that wasn’t really a reason for a negative review.

The gameplay aspect is great (i don’t know how it was at release) and that’s what matters, if it’s fun and doesn’t feel too repetitive then it was done right.

I think you’re missing a small point on whether or not the negative reviews are ‘reasonable’ or not. If you focus only on the gameplay in-mission, you’re looking at a slice of the game under a microscope. You’re seeing a micro-scale view of a very narrow section of the game. The crafting, (which informs the progression systems and crafting materials, grind, etc.) is a part of the gameplay, and a significant part.

The gameplay, largely, is satisfying. There are still imbalances, weird interactions and bugs, sometimes very annoying bugs and sometimes very minor bugs (sound, illogical spawns, and so on) but generally it’s not enough to tank a modern game. But as soon as you zoom out and take a holistic view of the whole package? Anyone looking at the crafting, the MTX store, the long-term progression, the social tools, the communication with the player base… The list goes on… Anyway, anyone looking at all that can rightfully feel like the overall product is lacking and give it a big, fat negative.

All those wobbly (or simply BAD) parts are the bits that are we hope will improve, and those are the bits that people the vast majority of the time keep nagging about. Not the run-and-shoot loop. Those wobbly parts are important to the overall feel of the game, because they were made in such a way as to be important, to have focus, to feel necessary, so yes reviewing a game down for that piece of the game being very unsatisfactory (even player hostile, some can say) is legitimate. I hope Fatshark fixes it, I really do, but we shall see what happens with the next patches.

But, perhaps tellingly, all these are the bits that feel like they most have corporate fingers in…

Am I though? I’m just congratulating FS for their mostly positive reviews (recently). Do I need to reply to everything else you just said?

The 1% turning it mostly positive will be tested on the 25th. I would wait with the celebrations until then, if the sentiment in steam forums, reddit and twitter is anythin to go by.

Sure, things can always go sour.

I see it the other way around because the gameplay is the biggest and most important chunk of the game and the crafting/grind is the sidedish.

I get to craft because i play - not i get to play because i craft.

To call gameplay a micro-scale feature is a false claim but we all have our own preferences.

You’re misunderstanding my jist. I’m not saying the mission loop is merely secondary, I’m saying that only considering the mission loop is focusing on one aspect of something that contains multiple aspects that all intertwine for many people. Seemingly, particularly the people who down-reviewed the game because of these aspects. In my post the whole is the macro view, while addressing only some parts of a thing (even the bigger part!) is still a narrow, ‘micro’ view. That’s all. It’s not ‘the important parts’ and ‘the side parts’, at least not how I’m seeing it. They coexist together for me and, apparently, for a lot of other people, so must be taken as a whole to get the balanced picture.

Now, yes you are free to absolutely ignore itemization and skill trees, play the game using only found gear and not reroll or ‘craft’ anything, so it’s easy to say that the missions are the meat of the game, but in this game the bread you put the meat into is off, and a lot of people are dissatisfied with the sandwich (game) as a whole. A bit of a clumsy metaphor, but I hope it makes some sort of weird sense.
