I’m an old man, I used to work with a lot of power tools and chainsaws, and my hand hurts when I try to keep clicking. I’ve played Vermintide 1, Vermintide 2, Darktide, and I can’t do this anymore and I feel discriminated against by Fatshark.
I can’t click 100 times a minute anymore.
There needs to be an option to hold attack and keep doing light attacks, and an option to bind charged attack.
If you search this there are many people talking about this issue concerning Vermintide 1, Vermintide 2, and Darktide over the years. And Fatshark won’t listen, Fatshark clearly don’t care about their players, Fatshark seemingly don’t care about the health of their players.
There is no simple solution for this. You cannot simply setup an Autohotkey or Macro because then you can’t switch to and fire an auto weapon and then you need a different key to do charged attacks (which Darktide doesn’t even have a secondary option binding) or you need to setup complicated macros to do Charged attacks.
Fatshark don’t care to inclusive, Fatshark don’t care if they’re exclusionary, Fatshark don’t care about accessibility for players who have difficulties, and Fatshark seemingly don’t care if they cause health issues for people through their games.
It’s very strange coming from a company who didn’t let you see your score because it was “toxic” who Fatshark themselves are then so toxic that for 10 years Fatshark’s toxicity stops them from putting such simple accessibility options in their game and insists that are must sweatily click 100 times a minute until your hand seize up.
It’s not just Fatshark’s discrimination against their players, disregard for the health of their players, but most of all it is testament to that Fatshark don’t regularly play their own games.
Sorry about your hands. As a fellow old, I feel ya and +1 accessibility options like this.
I personally play with a Steam Controller and a custom profile I’ve been developing since VT2 came out. Steam Controller (trackpad + gyro) can’t be beat in my opinion, but you could try another controller device. At any rate, Steam Input (the system through which you customize controls in Steam) is highly customizable and really a godsend for my paws. I have a very-quick-double-tap on right trigger bound to turbo/repeat the attack key (LMB). Works flawlessly.
absolutely man I’m the same way I need my hands to work and I’m not sure how much longer I’m going to get out of them the way they ache some days. I basically semi quit VT2 for the same reason until VS comes out - I’ve done enough high difficulty rat click, and it is very painful to do chaos wastes with weapons like dual axes/daggers. Setting up macros is so much more pain than modding in this game.
Yeah that sucks. I’m sorry to hear this is your experience. I fear I will be in the same boat soon enough as I’m no spring chicken anymore.
I’m not sure Fs will even acknowledge your request. We can hope they will but if they don’t, have you considered a decent logitech keyboard and mouse (or razer etc). They come with software that let’s you program all sorts of key strokes, combos and repeated clicks etc. They’re very customisable. I’m sure you’d be able to set 1 key/button as repeat hit (at whatever speed you want) and another as hold for the same mapping function (as an example). I use an ambidextrous mouse (I’m left handed) that has 9 customisable buttons that I can program to do pretty much anything.
Hit up Google first before buying anything but it could change your whole gaming life if you find a good m&k setup that can then be applied to almost any game.
I hope you find a solution that works for you. Please keep us updated if you can. I am interested in hearing if you figure something out.
Man, I’m 19 and never even thought about this. Even now, having played vidya since the ripe old age of 3, I can sometimes feel what feels like the onset of carpal tunnel in my wrist.
I ought to get myself a vertical gaming mouse - preferably one without lots of side buttons that are designed for MMOs.
I have a macro set up on a button slightly to the left of mouse1 to constantly spam mouse1 when held, but I still end up clicking a whole bunch of times per game. I’ve never needed accessibility options, but absolutely another +1 for adding sorts of features like this. Everyone should be able to enjoy games, not just me.
^ Wait till you get your first “bible” cyst, you whippersnapper.
The mods go a long way to alleviating these issues, both full auto and keep swinging as previously mentioned; these are accessibility mods at their core now, so long as they don’t add features that bypass what a human can do.
buy a gaming mouse, man. you can reprogram them and the decent ones can store multiple settings so you have presets for all your favorite games. leaving your normal mouse button to work the same while having one of the side buttons repeat clicks for you should solve it.
Jesus dude, I get that you’re calling for some better accessibility features, but you’re making out like they’re out get you, specifically.
Anyway, until they do implement something like the thing you’re asking for, play ogryn. It’s mostly heavies, so you’re clicking half as often as with other classes.
I’m blind and discriminated against that I can’t hear directions in darktide…
Like what, I mean that sucks, but it’s not a game devs job to make a product that is accessible to ever human on earth.
it’s like people have zero obligation to consider the situation they are in anymore,
just after a minute, i have a couple ideas that might pose a solution to this case, but why bother finding solutions to your problems when you can just blame others…
Good weapons:
Plasma, both Revolvers, 2-rnd burst headhunter, 3-rnd burst headhunter, MG IV and MG la lasguns, ripper guns, rumbler grenade launcher shotgun, Helbores (situtional), and human shotguns.
Bad weapons: (due to junky recoil pattern)
Aimed down bolter, headhunter single fire, MG XII (highly dependent on stability modifier).
sadly, full auto infantry autogun, i need to double tap fire due to junky recoil patterns too.
As for “keep swinging” its decent for left click spamming weapons, but weapons that require pattern or activating as power sword, or even heavy attacks combo it dont work.
I don’t have clicking issues but I still basically only play loadouts that make generous use of heavy attacks because I hate clicking repeatedly. Here are my faves:
Ogryn with shovel
Ogryn with pickaxe (Karsolas has 2x sweeping heavies, though I prefer Branx power)
Veteran with shovel (spam heavy for infinity horde clear)
Zealot with thunder hammer (it’s a meme but I still like it even on Damnation)
Zealot with heavy eviscerator (one is great if you like a juicy moveset, and there’s a simple one too)
I get a lot of mileage outta those! There are doubtless more. If you are a knife player for life then… sorry
I also recommend a gaming mouse with accompanying software for click spam! I would say if you go down this route don’t set the click frequency too high as some games won’t recognise inputs faster than a certain amount – I use 7 per second as a baseline.
Add a macro. If you have a mouse/keyboard that supports it you can configure it to do exactly what you’re asking for as a solution if Fatshark doesn’t have one.
I read you are already using some macros but they seem limited. The Dygma keyboards have a LOT of options to how you can program macros that I use with different options for a press, long press, two quick presses, one quick press and then a long press, etc.
You can chain different key combinations with delays built in.
I’ve noticed I’ve started getting a very uncomfortable feeling in my right hand that I use on the arrow keys for movement (I’m left handed). I’m worried it’s carpel tunnel or something as it’s not going away. Never had anything like this before so I’ve no idea what it’s meant to feel like. Feels horrible though… Like all my muscles and veins are in the wrong place on the top of my hand - like constant mild cramp.
Oddly enough my mouse hand is fine touches wood but damn if I have trouble with key presses then I’m in serious trouble!
Had to have gaviscon for the first time in my life on my 40th birthday and it’s been down hill ever since
That’s wrist posture: you’re pinching a nerve in your hand. I’m willing to bet that your keys are above your wrist height, so you bend your wrist back slightly? I’d suggest either a wrist wrest (which I personally hate, but YMMV), a better keyboard with built in support, or even one with a lower key profile might all help.
As for OP - “Keep Swinging” - surely this is a 1 hour job for a dev to put in to the game and add an on-off menu option? It is a click heavy game. I sometimes think it shouldn’t always be on the modders/players to find ways “around” limitations in the game.
I for one bought a Razer mouse about a year ago. I’m not going to try and sell you the brand, up to you, but Razer stuff comes with macro software that will sort you out. I have a DeathAdder v2 ($40/£40) that has a side button that I just hold to do repeated light swings. Honestly it’s so easy to set up. I’m sure Logitech et al. have similar stuff.
Plus Amazon sale week this week, so a good time to look.
It’s probably caused by your wrist being on a strange angle. Shift your keyboard around such that your wrist is in a neutral position while you play. You might need a wrist support if your wrist is tilted upwards while you play.
This helps if its your wrists, sadly its the top of my fingers that do hurt from typing/clicking
“Arthritis”, sometimes its so bad you give your hand order to click or type it flinches of the keyboard key.
I hear ya, I have to take breaks after each match and only play about 1 or 2 if i decide to boot up the game.
My recommendation is to try a ranged ogryn class. You can combine this with his heavy attack build so you have to charge up attacks. Very slow and steady ogryn.
Read below. Since you’re left handed, you might also consider using the numpad if you’re not or getting a gaming 40% keyboard/keypad, a left handed one or symmetrical.
Never wrist support, it’s lower palm support, the heel of your hand.
Your wrist should not be resting on anything, that can actually contribute to carpal tunnel. Angling and/or moving the keyboard is a great first step.
