Issue Description:
In-game packet loss to the point of being unplayable, both in Darktide and Vermintide, but not in any other games. My internet connection is stable and nothing has been changed from my end. I’m on IPV4.
Platform:
PC
Player ID:
Bioshift
Approx. Time of Issue & Timezone:
Roughly since the last DT patch, ongoing, but goes away sometimes after peak hours (again, my connection is fine, and other games function just fine, it’s only Tide games).
If you would have only issues in one of the games, then it would make somehow sense… but both?
Darktide is running on a dedicated server you´re connected to, meanwhile Vermintide is peer to peer connection, which means you´ll always have a different host, unless you host by yourself.
So in summary, it sounds like an issue on your end. Try to host a map in Vermintide and if it´s gone, it´s your connection having issues here and there.
My own host functions totally fine, it’s only as client. I agree it’s weird to affect DT too. But if it was only my internet connection then it should affect other games too right?
Not at all, depends on the routing of your provider. Might also be just some temporary issues you recognize way harder in Tide-games through its permanent combat and coding than in other games. (Dunno what else you play.)
Having package loss is pretty normal in Vermintide depending on the hosts locations, but yeah, in Darktide you shouldn´t have that much issues unless you live at the end of the world. Away from performance issues or rare input delays (which might rely on package loss), i would call the servers to be pretty stable. Never had enemies flying to the sky or huge hitreg issues etc…
In Options → Network, change ‘Max Upload Speed’ to the highest value that is lower than your upload bandwidth. (Max value is 2 Mbit/s.)
Also in Options → Network, enable ‘Small network packets’ and test if you have a more stable connection with it enabled.
Try changing your Steam networking settings to attempt a direct connection first. In Steam → Settings → In-Game → Steam Networking → change from ‘Default’ to either ‘Always’ or ‘Friends Only’ (if the lobbies you join are hosted by your Steam friends, otherwise prefer ‘Always’). With those settings, Steam will attempt a direct connection first (lower ping and a more stable connection), and only if the direct connection fails, will it relay the connection to Steam servers.
Please see if the recommendations above can be of any help. Note that ‘Small Network Packets’ cannot be used in combination with the ‘Player List Plus’ mod.
