People complained about FOMO from weekly updates, so they moved it to every two weeks, which is dumb. I’m on team weekly. At least then, stuff would rotate back in twice as fast.
I’m on team ‘stop playing stupid games and allow us to buy everything’.
give fatshark a break. it takes time to palette swap recycled outfits and purposely go out of their way to make some of the ugliest, most half-assed cosmetics in the industry.
How many live service games can you name that do that, though?
Yeah but games with a FOMO catalog either bombard you with options or rotations. This is neither. Often times they’ll throw the same Psyker hat on 2 different pages because literally negative effort is put towards this. Not even a recolored one and its happened more than once lol.
A weekly cycle would be better for the slop garbage. At least in a month you wouldn’t have to look at the same stuff anymore.
Uhhh halo infinite
I just wanted to clarify that Fatshark is not responsible for the cosmetics offered through the mTX store.
That work is outsourced to Adia Studios, a Chinese art firm that creates artwork for a number of AAA companies, including Diablo 4.
Since the revelation that Fatshark does not actually make the cosmetics that they sell, I’ve been particularly keen to learn what Fatshark staff do on a typical workday.
I always thought that a Sea of Thieves styled premium shop would be better. The newest stuff is on the Featured page and everything they have ever offered in the past is available in a long, ever-growing catalog.
If they still need an element of FOMO to pitch it to whomever is making the call on the feature then make it so that items are marked down when on the featured tab but get more expensive once moved to the catalog.
VT2 even has a rotating sale for older stuff which would be cool too an certainly incentivize buying some of the older things.
But first I think they ought to revise their scheme a bit. Cosmetics that share a base model should be discounted if you already own one and purchase one of the reskins. I think it would certainly make the reskinned cosmetics easier to stomach that way.
Personally as i can only speak for myself in comparison with every forum shepard out there who thinks he knows the whole picture, i like the idea of premium cosmetics as a mean to support free content streaming.
FS has made it crystal clear by now that true big content travels with the speed of a tree sloth. So the only thing i have to hope for and wait is the freaking cash shop (which indeed is worthy of criticism for its poor quality of items and its slow rotation rate) to show up some epic true 40k clothing.
To make it simple: the wildly criticised premium shop is the only thing in this “live service” game which is updated at a contant - not variable and indefinite - rate. And FatTard fails doing even this. Even if this is the only one time. So when you have established dungeon like expectations from your client and you fail to meet even them, i think all the salt of the ocean is completely justified.
i know, personal taste and all, but this weeks “rotation” aint something to write home about either, delay or not
Another recolor recycle
It’s so weird that this isn’t the case.
I’m confident most people don’t share this opinion, but I get the sense that the shop is so unusual because it’s the result of decisions made for diametrically opposed reasons.
On one hand, we’ve got time-limited releases and no back catalogue, which I can’t think of a good reason for except to stoke FOMO and urge sales.
But…then the timer is 6 weeks long. I have an equally hard time coming up with any good reason to justify that, other than to think they chose such a long rotation so that players don’t feel pressured to log in and scoop up stuff before it’s gone on pure impulse.
I mean, why not rotate every week and just cycle in previously stuff (like actual previous sets, not recolors)? That would (imo) be scummier than what we have now, but it would surely mean more sales, right?
That timer is 6 weeks long because the first attempt of ‘it’s here for 1 or 2 weeks then gone forever’ drew so much flak at a time when the game was bleeding players like mad that they backpedaled slightly in hopes of stemming some of the anger.
In this, like with many things, they fell victim to the Golden Mean Fallacy, where they think that ‘meeting in the middle’ between good development practices and trying to drain players of time and money is the right thing to do. This is true of the ‘crafting’, it’s true of their monetization, and it’s true of their mission selection.
Well, the other reason would be that it covers the fact that very little is being produced along those lines since launch.
AFAIK the rogue trader set is probably new, but what else since the initial rotation of sets after launch?
Hard to say without knowing exactly what was in the asset pool from launch of course, and i haven’t personally messed around with the drip mods so no clue here.
Just going by what i remember from the first 6 months or so of the store though we haven’t seen a whole lot of new sets that i can remember, at least not of the quality of the initial batch.
Edit: I don’t really count the new penance sets, but i guess they should be included out of fairness. I don’t think too many would pay 2400 fatshark coins for those though.
There’s definitely been enough content to rotate more often since the shop resumed rotation ~5 months after launch. It’d be more like the Helldivers 2 FOMO shop, where recycled rotations are practically guaranteed, but each cycle could have a nigh infinite number of combinations.
At any rate, a shorter cycle isn’t something I would advocate for. There should just be a full back catalogue.
only thing i´m “repainting” by now are mcfarlane figures, that way at least i can choose the pattern my oggy gets
Oh I’m in complete agreement, just pointing out that their current shop rotation also functions as a way to keep new cosmetics production low to non-existent by just recycling old sets, outside of the FOMO angle.
The repeated recolors rather than new sets just reinforces that for me, but that’s obviously just speculation on my part.
Maybe they have to pay for the modeling but do the color swapping in-house?
Because they want to reduce FOMO so they give you enough time to decide if you do want it.
We can only hope that the Ogryn backpack blocks Columnus bullets. Total miss like usual. Also if you are desperate for a backpack keep waiting for the Scions one that actually looks good. Zealot and Psyker have class themed backpacks to come later. Absolute miss.
