Screenshot on darktide reddit shows strawhat saying all he can say is that he can confirm that its under development.
Given FS history I would say that a safe and reserved assumption is that they’re working on writing the compatability code, and the ui interactions for ps5 and all other logistics to make the launch smooth.
Development is also a vague term which could mean that its being assessed for logistical viability.
So at the least theyre looking in to it. Best guess is that its coming with crafting rework.
We should also be careful to remember xbox release and how many bugs that had; expect a potential flood of bugs.
On the plus side this is good for the game if it pans out:
more people playing increases the size of the community
this means more people buying the game
which mea s more people buying skins
which means more resources for darktide as “market demand”/popularity grows.
This will augment the bottom line for DT. Idont wanna get my hopes up too high asive done in the past for other games, but these are all good signs.
Cue downvotes: I’d still love the option to turn off console cross-play on Steam, especially if there are more of them and they can play with each other.
Sometimes if I play after midnight the match making takes considerably longer, so I purposely switch from Europe to NA East for instant match making. Then I’m playing at NA East peak evening time.
Xbox has native mouse and keyboard support. By the fact that I don’t see any complaints or many on its functionality it must work well. Some PS5 games have native mouse and keyboard support too, so that should be brought over to PS5 version for optional choice of players.
i.e. Some PS5 games I see options like 4K @ 30fps or 1080 @ 60fps. Only handful 120fps ones which are the ones with more basic graphics.
What it needs in DT console versions. Ability to outright turn graphics to low/off and go 120fps.
Native mouse and keyboard support alongside 120fps. This game isn’t like slow moving HD2, past pace needs every advantage here because T5 Auric for console is exact same difficulty as T5 Auric.
Now my concern is that Sony has much more strict certification process for updates adding delays.
Well the problem with cross platform (this is purely speculation/conjecture) is that the servers for XBox and PS5 require you to have your patch “Certified” which requires some sort of curation/QA/QC process I suppose. I imagine that with everyone wanting to upload content to their games, you get windows to upload your stuff; you get a scheduled date to do so. This can make patching for all platforms pretty difficult.
I could be completely wrong though. All I know is that CCP Games had a hard time getting the certification windows from Sony when they were patching DUST 514.
If anything, I imagine it’ll slow balance changes. But, playercount will go up.
I think this is a bad thing as a lot of people ‘gain access’ to a game via the playstation plus sub service which means income for fat shark even if the game isn’t good enough for people to play it. They are being paid to be included in the service.
So it reduces their motivation to make a great game as they won’t need to actually get people to choose the game in order to make more profit. It’s this kind of thing that is watering down the quality of media.
nah. quite the contrary. in thousands of matches i’ve seen one ( 1, as in singular ) clutching, ultimately succumbing to overwhelming odds, in what could even be described as “close” to mouse & keyboard movement.
my preparation is getting used to “who are you” mod, more than 2 console dudes in a low level lobby and sorry my spare time is far to precious for worthless endeavours.
that is, and i hope im totally in the wrong here, that mods get handled seperately for pc.
playstation/sony has been quite the “p*ssy” when it comes to mods themselves.
so hands of me mods and hands of me hoard size.
aint my fault the breadbox costs a fifth of my graphics card, hence i don’t care about performance issues.
i put a couple months salaries into a pc worthy of darktide for a reason and expect my raytraced goodness at 144fps and hundreds of heretics to bash.
yes from companies standpoint more sales more revenue.
but from my rather selfish player perspective i rather have 1000 competent dudes a day and pay something extra if need be than 20k clueless folks making the game not harder but more frustrating with absolute erratic behavior sometimes the best of skills cant compensate for.
in the end i get the feeling of moving from peer 2 peer servers were a bad thing.
got more than one spare rig that could run all year long and would only need 3 people to keep the fun going
I don’t believe they’d have said anything about it unless they are almost certain they can/will port it. So this is good news. But I also hope they won’t stop content drops because of it.
Microsoft will pay devs to put games on gamepass and/or player count too. Probably best metric for dev returns based on that.
After a while might even end up as inclusive game to PS Plus subscribers.
There are reports the game doesn’t run well on Xbox Series X, then some people say it is fine. Which is odd as each Xbox is identical hardware. Should be easy to optimise if only one configuration to test on.
Not just for PS5. Sony has been selling dev kits for PS5 Pro development too, so will be more work to make it work for next generation rather than just existing.
Boils down to 2 concerns I see alot. My views are totally different.
Crossplay with consoles and Auric
You can’t release new updates separately from PC and console as they share same servers. Will PS5 and/or has Xbox will hold back development for PC in future.
Typical example is Elite Dangerous where it dropped console support and focused on PC development going forward. So I am guessing maintaining separate development branches wasn’t worth it comparing platform player count.
