Very true but not relevant. It is natural that there are different levels of quality, but power swords remain very rare weapons as a whole and regardless of the quality of the individual specimen («power swords are elite weapons and a sure sign of high status in the Imperium»), precisely because few Adepts of the Mechanicus possess the skills necessary to build them. To be clear, there are no discount power swords and in all Warhammer 40K role-playing games the most accessible power weapons are considered «Very Rare».
What I’m saying is that if there are power swords in Darktide, there are no lore reasons for not having other iconic weapons or weapons relevant to the setting.
That would depend on the weapon you’re talking about. If it’s Power Axe, Melta or similar then yes no lore outright block those, but for the following they still would be blocked: Exitus Rifle and Pistol, C’tan Phase Weapon, Neuro Gauntlet… (Officio weapons); Blessed weapons (Sister only); Frost weapon (Space Wolf only)…
Because they aren’t really weapons that you can block or us in melee, a melee set that has a whip as the special in theory could work (I did have such an idea for Kerillian a time ago, with Beastlord Spear and Whip)
Preacher don’t really use Power weapons, but they could introduce them as we have a Death Cult Assassin, though unless we get new branches like the Crusader I think Power Swords will stay for the Veteran only
Apologies, I certainly don’t mean adding the Veteran’s Power Sword in its current form directly to Zealot with a Storm Shield - that’d be WAY too unfair on Veterans. I’m thinking of a… less functional version that can still be activated, but it overall performs more like the Ogryn Maul + Slab Shield combo! 40K Crusaders generally use a Power Sword and a Storm Shield, but I’d be very open to any other weapon suggestions to be good friends with my Storm Shield.
Hm… A 2-handed Power Sword and a Hellgun together? I have… AN IDEA!
Certainly! It was implied that extreme cases were excluded, and in fact I did not include any of the weapons mentioned in my list. There’s already enough lore-r*ping with the Rejects’ dialogues, let alone seeing them equipped with an Exitus Rifle, a Terranic Greatsword or some bullcrap like that. I would only agree if the only one in the whole world who could use them was Lil Aryslav’s Preacher
Yes, this was the application of the «Flexible» rule in Dark Heresy: weapons that can neither parry nor be parried. However, the flail also belongs to the same category. In Vermintide they solved this in an ingenious way, with Saltzpyre blocking enemy blows by holding the chain taut. Maybe they could do the same thing with the whip.
It’s true, Power weapons are not very widespread among the Ministorum, although nothing prevents them from using them. You know what weapon would be awesome for the Preacher? The Baptismal Mace introduced by Dark Heresy:
«The weapon combines a massive bludgeoning head with a reservoir of some liquid, including holy water, caustic fluids or promethium. Upon impact, the fluid is released, dousing the target. In the case the tank is filled with promethium, an igniter is added to the haft to set the liquid afire with each stike.»
And if someone dares to say: «B-b-but from a lore point of view it doesn’t make sense that we can receive this particular weapon», I reply: fantastic, too bad we already have the power sword, a rare weapon even among the Space Marines (I quote the wiki: «Power swords are typically reserved for high-ranking members of the Adeptus Astartes or other powerful and influential members of the Imperium, such as Inquisitors, Commissars or Astra Militarum officers»), hence the whole argument on the rarity of the weapons flies out the window.
if it a Rare weapon and it’s not. then why do guard Sergent’s have access to them, their not Officers and you can get one in every squad in the Role-play.
shjow me here that it states that it is Rare for us to acesses them. yes it says officer. but on the Tabletop even the sergent can access one. so i would disagree with. as seen
Thanks for the timely response, Apice. Honestly, I didn’t remember that Sergeants could access power swords (I confess a heresy: on the Tabletop I play the Tyranids), but it is also true that Sergeants in the hierarchy of the Imperial Guard are considered NCOs.
Regarding what you asked, here is a scan of the Dark Heresy Armoury, page 139. It’s the old edition, but I checked and the power sword remains Very Rare even in Only War, Black Crusade and 2nd edition DH.
We’re dunking on multiple chaos spawns, leagues of chaos ogryns in a face to face fights, and banishing an entire armies worth of daemonhosts with small arms fire.
My belief had to be successfully suspended ages ago.
