Heavy Sword IX on Veteran (Solved)

Hi,

What am I doing wrong with the Heavy Sword on my Veteran?

It feels like I am doing no damage with light attacks, and I am wondering if it is a skill or a blessing issue.

I’ve not tried the new blessings but try using Headtaker+Deathblow and then against horde you chain from a light into a looping heavy heavy heavy (etc) pattern.

These heavies will all be perfectly horizontal and if used at head height should one-hit* ragers and smaller (might need Headtaker stacks, written from the zealot perspective).

Good luck!

The light attacks on this weapon have very low damage and are used mostly against enemies that also have very low health - chaff hordes, essentially. For everything else, use heavies.

You don’t need wrath on an heavy sword

Before I was using Rampage and headtaker.
On a melee, now I will certainly try Chained deathblow and Bladed momentum. But this one is for a build critic orientated.

In fact heavy swords cleave very well. Deathblow, wrath or savage sweep are not require to kill hordes and generally enemies that come in number.
Perfect strike can be interesting as it increase damage against armored enemies, something that is the weakness of this weapon.

And as FeelingShy said. You should use a lot the heavy swing. This can one shot all lesser enemies.
Also, final advice. Several like the IX, I prefer the VII or even the VI.
The IX and VII are the stronger. VI is the weaker. But VI is faster than the others. And VII has a nice anti horde attack pattern. I have never liked the IX…
But, test them in the training room to see what you prefer.
Why do I prefer the VI? cause on a zealot this one can stagger dreg raggers and kill them with ease.

EDIT: you made me want playing with the weapon… but on my zealot :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
I will use that

It’s a glorified knife with more cleave and less movement.

Thank you, Ralendil!

I switched to the MK VII, and it resolved every issue I had with the weapon!

The VIII’s attack pattern suits me far better than the IX’s. The heavies look and feel much smoother, and I can kill hordes with just quick light attacks, which I usually prefer to keep my hands free of strain.

Here’s a star for you :star:

I have been always in MK VI camp myself, love the heavies on that thing. I just wish they did something useful with the push attack. It looks so bad and its fairly weak.

In general light attacks just don’t feel right. There is no sense of momentum, weight or impact behind them. Maybe they could add a new mark with slower, but harder hitting light attacks.

MK VI reminds of this messer sword type:
