The New and Improved Heavy Swords

So what are your thoughts on the patched Heavy Swords ? (improved damage modifier against Infested and Flak armor)

I’ve been trying to make use of them, but I can’t help but wish I had my Tactical Axe instead. The heavies and push attack on the Mark II make quick work of hordes anyway and are much better against armor.

I guess they’re good horde-clearing specialized weapons, but the downsides are too much for me. And also, no mobility.

“Why dost thou hate your team, templar?”

All of my thoughts on heavy swords in a nutshell.

They’re bad. They fill no particular niche, have no particular strengths outside of being good at flailing a horde and pretending you’re helping, and don’t have any utility that makes them worth being absolutely useless for damage.

They’d honestly make more sense as a weapon for psyker/veteran over zealot.

Pretty mid.

It feels just a bit too slow. Like, since it’s a Zealot-only weapon, they didn’t account for the 10% attack speed bonus passive.

It would probably help its dps if they bumped it up a little.

Gotten into the groove with them a bit, but I will say I only really like the MK VI. The overhead → uppercut heavy attacks on that version do surprising solid single target damage on everything but crushers, the light chain is extremely safe against hordes and clears decently fast if aimed at head height. The special attack is a solid interrupt for ragers and the like like many special attacks.

The one I have has +10% power on hit, stacks 5 times. I haven’t found a comparably strong damage boosting blessing on devil’s swords, which seem to be the closest direct competition. Both heavy swords and devils claw can get strong cleave blessings that let them comfortably spam lights into the densest of hordes, but the heavy swords trade finesse and mobility stats for first target and defence, I definitely notice how much stamina I have on heavy swords and they’re generally good for getting revives off. Not sure what you’re talking about OP with bad mobility, they feel more than serviceably mobile to me, but maybe I’ve just spent too much time recently with the attrociously unmobile crusher.

I think I slightly prefer the devil’s claw swords, but heavy swords feel aight to me on Heresy overall.

I reported that as bug.
