Having spent a lot more time forcing myself to play Havoc to get all my parts, I have to 100% agree with you on the EFL modifier being what ruins this game mode for me (trash gunners/shooters instant burst fire taking out all toughness and half your HP is the main cause). Just remove/replace that single modifier and it would be a great time even with randoms.
Inconsistency is no help either. I felt masochistic this weekend, so I did my climb to 40 for season 2. Was overall fun when getting mostly competent groups. But I absolutely observed at least 1 regular scab stalker shooting off ~16 round bursts back to back like a mini-gunner. He was alone and we had a lull, so I got to observe him a bit with bubble protection, so this was not combat-induced hysteria. Now imagine more than one of those in the sea of shooters you can roll. It’s precisely why we have only a handful of loadouts worth taking.
Remove EFL and you still need tight coordination and teamwork while losing the bs “you die now, lulz” chance every step forward currently presents.
I’ve finally played havoc again for the first time since the revamp and must say I had a lot of fun despite absolutely hating the demotion system.
I was at hosting level 26 (no idea why) and tried hosting a few of games but just like the pre-vamp havoc it seems other players are still the most potent modifier.
26 seemed hard as nails, I guess due to the players, and we didn’t get far at all. Then after getting demoted I decided to have a go at some hosted 40s and we got so much further on the first try and succeeded (pretty easily) on the second try.
So just like before, it seems the havoc 20-30 range is the hardest. Go figure lol
It is the hardest, just like ELO hell in any competitive game… Climbing mid ranks is always the hardest, because you have the up and coming good players on your team and boosted players in the same bracket, but more often than not it’s the latter.
All my hardest Havoc matches were during the season 2 reset… I’ve never lost so many matches in the row, and I’ve deranked from 30 to 25 on release day (while previously I’ve been Havoc 40 almost every week). It took me 3 days of grinding to get back to Havoc 40, and my hardest games were all around 30. As soon as I’ve left this ELO hell, I won almost every game from 35 to 40.
I shite you all not. During my play last weekend, I struggled through a ~25 win after multiple tries with the same group (rare). There were 2 good enough players and one vet that did not deserve to be there. He was running a boltgun sniper build, exec stance and all. He was talkative but completely ignored my advice that wasn’t a viable build, as much as that sucks.
After we hard carried him to the win he exclaimed “that was crazy” and promptly said he hadn’t played above Auric Damn till that day. I could only laugh and move on.
So, yeah, that’s what the 20’s of havoc bring with them.
You’re literally playing the hardest difficulty lol, so don’t be too hard on yourself!
Stop it guys, you’re giving me hope that I might actually like this game mode if I ever actually got invited to a 35+. Maybe I should just start requesting invites even if most of them get rejected.
yes, do just that. You will most likely run into an altruistic group of 40s that take you, eventually (if you can make it to >21)
Pick arbi, spam nuncio, walk pugsters thru 40 ezpz.
The “meta slaves” are not the cause of boring playstyle in Havoc, but the consequence of the Havoc deranking system.
Nobody can experiment safely without risking their (and their team mates’) deranking.
Only at 40 there’s freedom to play, goof around with wonky builds and terrible weapons but getting there is a pain in the ass because, once again, Fatshark mixes player engagement with player agency.
The deranking system is hot fecal matter and FS will take 2 years to get the message.
