Havoc first impression

Who could have seen this coming?

Me. It was me. (And a lot of other people)

Getting rid of toughness gating is a terrible idea when shooters are already one of the more anti-fun parts of the game for many builds/playstyles. Combine that with the modifier that reduces max toughness and just… why?

Screw the party finder. This should be quickplay plain and simple.

Otherwise - no real complaints? Could use some more clarity but I only had time for one mission so maybe the rewards track makes more sense later on.

those hidden modifiers look terrible. i’m not even gonna play havoc that just looks tedious as hell

I can no longer host any Havoc games.

It worked fine yesterday until I played for a few hours, and now I’m permanently stuck with error 9999 whenever I try to host, so I guess I’m locked at rank 20 for now.

It is easier to get people to join your hosted games than it is to find people that hosts games that you can/want to join.

If they at least displayed one’s Havoc rank in regular games as well, instead of keeping them completely separated, some people would be incentivized to keep playing so they have something to show for it.

Did a lot of maelstrom yesterday. I am not the best player (and never said the contrary), but yesterday all my games had 1 or 2 guys that were dealing the DPS of a bot or dying at same rate of a bot.
I am not enough skilled to carry players on auric maelstrom.

So, not even one havoc game.

We somehow ended up with a starting rank of 16 without playing any Havoc.

They increased it immediately in response to people being annoyed by only going to 10.

Yeah, it was updated to 16 a bit later yesterday.
StrawHat even added annoucement for it:

this is really funny to me because i coasted through auric, but normal maelstrom was unplayable due to the terrrible players (in blue krieg costumes) ruining every match.

Yeh, what’s funny is I’ve already got at least one auric maelstrom completion, but because of the implementation of this the game just disregards previous completions and requires a new one. Haven’t bothered actually playing since playing the slot machine to get some rolls on the 2h power sword… After reading everything going on here, I kinda feel the game’s doing me a favor.

Only recently dipped my toes into aurics anyhow, but the non-Maelstrom feels only marginally more tilted than standard Damnation-- hell I’ve had standard damnation director runs where they just really wanted players dead and those were hilariously difficult compared to the aurics I’ve done… could be a combination of improved player competence?

Succeeded to complete one… miss 9 others to complete the penance.
But maelstrom was the most enjoyable difficulty, now it is really a pain cause of this Havoc mode…

My experience has been “Try to join a 1-10 game, get rejected immediately.”
I’m the wrong person for this content anyway I suspect; I still don’t even really care for the auric stuff and havoc seems “auric but MORE”

aside for the connection problems Havoc seems nice to me, i’ve hit my skill cap at level 24, i was used to play tanky builds so i find myself in a disadvantage compared to those who base their style on not getting hit in the first place

but i’m eager to learn how to play with paper stats, for now i’m just hugging to VoC since it seems the most sensible path forth, although i enjoyed myself playing with exe stance until level 21

There is barely any havoc missions above 20 and they keep rejecting my join request. I have a havoc level of 17 so it’s not like I’m going to fail.

I don’t understand why we don’t just have 1 havoc xp level. Instead we have a level for games we’ve completed and a level for games we have completed as host…it’s so confusing and I just don’t see why it’s not rolled into 1 easily digestible level.

What grinds my gears are the people who drop out just as the game is starting and then you are left with a bot (or 2!) with zero chance of someone joining in their place because the game won’t allow that. So you spend 10 karking minutes setting up a single havoc game, then another 10 minutes restarting the game because 1 of the players drops out in the lobby, then someone drops out as level is loading and bam you have to play with 2 or 3 real players and some particularly terrible bots.

The other thing I’m really not enjoying is the modifier with the goo covered exploding enemies. They seem to be in every mission and absolutely loads of them…and getting into melee with them give you…corruption!!! How is that a good idea? Simply fighting the enemy gives you corruption? I’d understand it if it was 1 in every 100 enemies that you’d have to avoid and kill at range like a burster but they’re every other damn enemy so it’s completely unavoidable. So 10 minutes in you have 3/4 corruption if you’ve been melee fighting hordes.

Can other people even see your Havoc rank? I haven’t started a lobby yet, so I don’t know what that looks like from the party leader’s POV, but I haven’t noticed the Havoc ranks of anyone in the Party Finder.

This is also mine…
As I suspected, this mode promotes elitism.
A game mode clearly done in opposition of the player population.

I don’t care that they do a game mode that is addressed to 1% of players. But they should not have put rewards. As I want the armors, I will have to try to get my way in this mode. And get a lot of frustration…

Waiting 10 minutes to launch something, that will last more than 30 minutes, is not my definition of “fun”.

Yes it’s in bright white text next to your name. You can see the hosts rank on missions that appear on the search too. Unfortunately it’s what will dictate whether you’re chosen or not over others.
