I’ve been away from the game (semi-deliberately) for a while. I didn’t like the idea of Havoc, but I also delved in to a.n.other game for a while.
I fired it back up today. So, despite having a current +13 ranking from the first game I played, I couldn’t get in to a level above that for love nor money. Any time I tried for higher ranks, I got “rejected” from the lobby. I’ve been around for a while, my truerank is about 350 on this avatar, and yet no-one was interested.
In the end I joined a 10-20 rank game, with truelevel +30s. And we tanked within about 5 minutes.
I’m just guessing since obviously there’s no way to ask people why they reject, but a rank of 13 suggests you haven’t beat an auric maelstrom. Even if 16s are heresy that puts people off and they’ll decline.
I think the best way to get out of the early ranks and let people know “okay, this person probably isn’t playing on a controller and half-afk and going to die to a poxwalker while he talks to his mom on the open mic” is to beat an auric maelstrom which affords you assignment 16, then hosting a couple yourself. I doubt you’d have an issue getting invited to 20s when you’re at rank 20 yourself, afterwards. (you’ll probably also gain some empathy for why people rejected you at rank 13, if you invite people indiscriminately)
That’s just me thinking progress oriented though, if the social dynamics put you off then it is what it is. I didn’t hate it, it was kinda fun sussing out the good players and adding them to complete a regular team.
To be fair, you can always host yourself and be in charge of who to accept. You’ll quickly come to understand why hosts are selective. It’s just a reality of difficult content that people don’t want to waste their time and attempts.
Havoc would be TRULY loathsome if you COULDN’T reject people
i used to do that in mythic+ (not reject people) its not as bad as you would think turns out a lot of bad people can convince a guild/friends even strangers or gold sellers to carry them to get whatever is the yardstick is to “qualify”
thing is you never see that path not travelled its easy to take your other qualified players struggle and say “phew would never of made it with those guys who didn’t have the portrait/title/we” but you dont know that.
but its a bit of a moot point real or imagined the practice is already in place and the demands will only get worse. they always do.
if i were to play havoc id do the same as i did in M+ everyone gets one chance. but the mode doesnt interest me the rewards dont incentivise me so i will just keep on quickplaying the odd game here and there as thats what i like to do.
you know, barely anyone has been using this party finder since it came out. (i gave it a glance and it didn’t do anything i couldn’t get with discord and quickplay).
so it seems that havoc has been made in a way that requires players to use it whether they want it or not.
honestly, them psyker/zealot only groups are my new A.S.S cheese, zero respect from me.
so far given the opportunity my oggy went above and beyond but it seems pansies need the easy mode to make sure they get a title they wouldnt obtain otherwise.
so as with the twins, once portrait and title are obtained i’ll ditch the mode for waiting around in that lousy lobby system isnt worth my gaming time.
emperor knows every second ingame is far too precious.
I get discouraged just looking a the party finder because all the Titles, Kill count frames and 100 auric mission insignia. I know I am not at the upper skill level to shittalk but gods damn.
I’ve got every bit of bling along the maxed out penance path.
I normally rein it in, but this avatar has the blue power sword portrait, the five in a row Auric title, maelstrom medal, 350 levels on it… and I doubt anyone can see my skill tree and maxed out weapons and curios until I’m in the party at least?
I am currently rank 21 and I think all of the rejects are made by the system. First, the request stays there infinitely, then you make a new one and the old one gets rejected after couple of seconds.
You are not safe from the Party Finder just because you have friends.
I got six rather active ones, which all have others that also play frequently. Multiple times in the last days we had trouble with finding a host, because of the, in all honesty, stupid way leveling up gets handled. Whats the point if everyone online in your FL is 30+, but no one is able to open that level range?
The Party Finder does nothing in that case. We will not be having that problem anymore in a couple of hours, since we all made it to 40 and as I understand it will all be level up to that range, but most players did not and will have to deal with this situation.
I got better luck than you but even with a true level 900 psyker faced much of the same challenge from the start. Got to rank 23 on friday I think and haven’t played it since. I could ofc go with my main psyker who’s well over 1k but I doubt it would make a difference.
Considering I haven’t even tried it in a few days bc of the heavy restrictions on builds there, I don’t really have a strong opinion of it yet. But I was suspicious of something like this happening from the start.
A challenge mode like that will always heavily enforce some meta. It will always massively favor people with friends or connections, or who bother with Discord hassle etc. And considering the low skill level of your average players on T5+, and the strong - and often wrong - opinions they tend to have on meta & the game in general (based on the forums ever since release)… well. Class & build segragation based on a completely wrong understanding of the game was basically a given.
Sadly I think it likely that unless we find friends to play with, it’s best to settle for low rank havocs only to grind those penances. That meta is also extremely restricting in terms of both builds and gameplay. So I can’t imagine myself being interested in it for too long either way. But it’s still something new and different so I do consider it a positive overall!
Plus there’s a LOT more newbies in basic T5+ now. Like, most people have always been out of their league there, but now it’s 10x worse. Which means you can finally take your strong builds out for those basic Aurics & Maelstroms without getting bored. That to me is fantastic!

M+ was my introduction to something like this many, many years ago. It was deeply demoralizing and absolutely unbearably annoying as someone with ADHD. Spamming requests from a minimum of 5-10 minutes up to an hour to get refused over and over? No. Just. No.
To me, expecting people to put up with something like that during their few precious free hobby hours per day, is nothing short of insulting. Dehumanizing even. Maybe that’s just me but yeah… absolutely not ever gonna happen again. It’s similar to Blizzard’s other game Overwatch actually. You know those constant 5-15 minute queues to get a match? My time is worth so much more to me than that.
The screening process isn’t even as intricate as some think it is. The truth is that the second you open a lobby above 25, you will get dozens of people applying for it. A noise plays when a player applies, and there is a counter in the top right, and it will not stop going up, nor will the noise stop blazing your eardrums. In most cases we had 25+ people who wanted to join.
This is actually a good point! After tonight’s reset we should have our own missions on par with our highest completed run right? Making your own team seems like the far better approach.
Won’t get those random “join game” popups mid-mission to kill you or sabotage you out of there either.
well that should get better week two when the other 75% can start hosting , but i wasnt being specific i have never even tried to join a havoc group , it was entirely non specific at how these systems shape the flow of human behaviour.
as the weeks go by you will see hosts and the joiners become more severe in their demands if the devs keep throwing enough rewards at it
its pretty soul destroying without ADHD
for m+ i was lucky MT of a pretty good progress guild and my buddy was one of the main healers , so we would just take the first 3dps monkies to message and go
but i saw the despertation in all the /whispers and ive spent my fair share time on the other side of it to. vanilla Everquest was brutal if you picked the wrong class.
For one game, after which you, again, put 75% of the playerbase in a position that can not host to progress.
It is a doomed loop.
The only people able to break out are the ones that reach 40 until the level cap rises.
It is an infuriating experience to sit there with one or more friends, and not being able to open a lobby anywhere near your level. You cant even queue up as two, or three in that case.
