Hardcore gamers are asking for nerfs and thats killing PVE games. Look at Helldivers getting burned to the ground in real time due to nerfs. Go check the discord. People are saying the majority of weapons have been nerfed to the ground and are unfun to play. The game has lost 90% of players and the apathy has reached the comedic level of players actually saying the Automatons should just take Super Earth. The Devs are saying they are “struggling” to balance the game between normal and hardcore players.
And thats the reason Darktide will never grow. The minority of hardcore players constantly requesting nerfs have become the target audience of Fatshark and thus this game will never reach the heights it could because if a weapon is fun and a joy to use its “trivializing muh difficulty”
Hey, dont want difficulty and balance? Dont play auric damnation. Like or not, balance IS necessary for PVE games to stay afloat. Here is a hypothetical: if all weapons in the game could one shot every single enemy on the map, and all abilities had zero cooldown so you could just infinitely spam them, would the game still be fun to you? “It’s just a PVE game” is a bad argument. A lot of us play these games for the difficulty. Nerfs are an essential part of achieving that difficulty. The problem with Helldivers, is that Arrowhead doesnt understand how to balance their game at a fundamental level. So they just go overboard with nerfs, instead of addressing the core issues as well as not buffing weapons that need it.
I would add that at Malice difficulty you should not suffer of nerfs.
Helldivers model is “use new weapons of the current warbound to get fun from the game”.
In fact, yes they balance the game. I play it, and lot of weapons are still good.
However, the weapons they release are always better and stronger than what we have in the game. Then they nerf them a little time after the warbound release.
This incitates people to buy the warbound… and that’s surely the goal.
I think server instability, slow updates and so on are bigger factors, but to each their own.
While nerfs are a scary word, not all nerfs are the same. Some might gut a weapon to unusable trash and others are merely a slap on the wrist. But that is not enough reason to not do a balance pass, either buffs or nerfs, to make sure there is room for each weapon to shine in their own respective niche.
Your solution wouldn’t fully solve Smyker spamming because Smyker spammers would just quell their Peril more often.
My solution to make it work like Big Friendly Rock would completely nip Smyker spamming in the bud while keeping it the same for those like myself who use it properly.
Obviously it wouldn’t fully work, because psyker needs some deeper changes, such as completely redesigning peril as a mechanic, because currently quelling has no cost and you can do it on demand.
In helldivers case it’s entirely on arrowhead completely failing to understand their own game and how the vast majority playerbase enjoys engaging with it and utterly refusing to listen for so long and going back on their own word
The nerf copers are in the sheer minority the utterly overwhelming opinion on hd2 is arrowhead balancing for reelism (only when it screws the player it’s absolutely fine when enemies do unrealistic things that screw us) and nerfing ok weapons to be inline with the awful ones is insanely stupid and arrowhead need to get their s*** together or end up killing the game outright.
It’s an honestly impressive glow down in such a short amount of time going from an absolutely beloved game with people engaging patriotically with its meta story to now utterly rebelling against it advocating for the destruction of super earth.
The only things that were overpowered were glitches the devs couldn’t fix promptly so they nerfed the weapon and then actually fixed the glitch and then never rebuffed the weapon now that it’s overpowered exploit is now fixed so the weapon is now just completely gimped (see railgun and arc thrower)
Anyone that thinks any primary in hd2 was overpowered is either utterly deranged or only playing on difficulty 4 and below like the devs are
Just look at the breaker spray and pray
Ok they nerfed the incendiary breaker and spray and pray is still useless and not used because its stats are still worse than the actual effective gun that does more damage per pellet and shoots fire. But wow less ammo what great balancing make the actual decent weapon for bugs only more inconvenient while leaving the useless weapon still useless
Smite turns the game into a glorified psykhanium. By using smite, especially effectively, the game is not but beating punching bags that cannot fight back. I don’t know about you, but I play this game for the intricate melee combat, and when the enemies cannot fight back, it all goes out the window. I have similar complaints about plasma, shriek, and perilous combustion deleting the entire screen and removing any chance of others being able to play the game at its best in high density.
they nerfed the incendiary breaker cause it was needed. You must be blind if you have not seen it… (if you like I can use same words as you… deranged you like?)
and I play difficulty 7 and sometimes 8. 7 if I just want to take pleasure, 8 if I want medals.
There is nothing more cringe than mediocre players playing a PVE game pretending they are elite, then demanding nerfs to ruin other players’ fun. Play Auric Maelstrom premades using Grey items if you need a challenge. Let’s not pretend getting items you don’t use nerfed in any way improves the game.
The people who got the flamer and bolter removed from the game factually harmed the player base permanently. Listening to vocal minority factually destroys all games, e.g. WoW, Diablo, Overwatch, LoL, Wildstar, etc.
