Restarting the mission untill you get the bonus you want… That sounds fun…
Got me thinking about the random nature of the blessings though. You’ll always have some you like better than others because of team composition or build. And that results in anti-fun behaviour like people restarting maps. Wouldn’t it be better if you could somehow pick the bonusses you want, but the quests are still random? For example: you’ll always get 10% power as your first quest reward, but whether you earn that by picking up a book, or by killing monsters, or whatever, is random.
That would hardly change anything. If you want that 15% power, or life reg and need to kill a monster for it on a non 100% spawn map, or something like Bell, where that would happen late, you still have a perfect reason to restart.
Same goes for late tomes, or inconvinietly placed grims
You’d pretty much always complete one quest though, and if you could pick the order of rewards you’d at least get the one reward you’d really want.
Good feedback overall. First off I’ll say that I really like Grail Knight. It’s by far my favorite Kruber career, and made me play him a lot more recently.
Regarding Virtue of Heroism - this trait actually gives out 25% damage, not power (the text is misleading), which means it doesn’t increase cleave or stagger. I suggest making Virtue of Heroism actually give power instead of damage, and then it might actually be a fine trait.
Right now, however, it’s just overshadowed heavily by the other two excellent traits in its row.
Also, Virtue of Stoicism and Virtue of Discipline are kind of trash for reasons already explained above.
Why not lol. If the team falls straight in front of CW patrol (because one player is a noob, or bot is stupid, or because of a bad luck), and i have to choose between killing them fast with Exe sword and ulti, or clutching, that 50% thp can save my ass.
Therefore i still don’t get why Virtue of Stoicism would be TRASH. I mostly use bretonnian longsword for defense/mobility and to dodge dance between enemies, and Exe sword vs horde/monster/elites mixed in horde or not. I don’t need +30% stamina recovery for Exe sword (though i use it in some other build, i know it’s great), and since i have 60% BCR and +2 stamina on Bretonnian longsword, and since it has the best dodge count and distance of all Kruber weapons, i don’t need need it on it either.
And on legend if i get hit, i most often get hit only once. If its a famous single rat spawning out of nowhere, dealing crazy damage with single attack, or somehow i eat SV overhead (because of a lag, or because im tired or distracted)… that’s a lot THP. I rarely get hit second time, and that 50% damage turned into THP makes me way more tanky.
Of course i would prefer 40% armor, or even 30% armor. But with bretonnian longsword + exe sword build, at least on legend, i prefer Stoicism over two other talents.
I think the fact it makes you so vulnerable is a good way to balance its almost absurd output.
I think legend guarantees a boss now, and in fortunes of war your duties are scripted, which is very cool! It is unfortunate if you miss out on this perk on sub legend games however.
I actually see a lot of uptime with this, and the added power turns you into a lawnmower on Cata, coupled with the 30%, it makes using l1, l2 longsword attacks into mixed hordes pretty viable, since you are punching through armor like SVs.
Im not a fan but it seems to be the most popular option.
One thing i don’t like about GK is that he is so slow! Even Battle wizard, or Pyro gets some attack speed bonus. It seems quite weird that GK, who can only use melee weapon, has literally no talent improving it.
I think he should get a talent which gives him +10% attack speed.
And about being vulnerable while using blessed blade - it applies to many ults in this game. Same thing with RV, or FK ulti.
RV is invisible in his cloud and FK can parry while ulting.
Not to mean GK shouldn’t be vulnerable though…
So, duties need to be changed. Essentially, if I had the ability to control duties, I would run Virtue of Purity with exclusively regeneration and damage reduction. And I do, but in a very boring and frustrating way. So instead, we need a way to mitigate or outright remove the RNG on duties, while still trying to give the players choices and tradeoff.
Duties need multiple ways to acquire each one. Regeneration could come from grabbing a grimoire, but what if people skipped grims before you joined, or grabbed and lost them? What if you want to do weaves on grail knight? Do you just accept your duties will never be able to be accomplished? No, we need multiple ways to finish every duty.
We also just need more duties. It’s already bad enough that I would personally never care if power and cooldown reduction were removed from the duty list, but it’s worse that I basically only ever want 2 of them because the 3 offensive ones are so lukewarm, whereas defensive options are super spicy. I consider the strength potion one bad, mostly because it reduces the effectiveness of good duties or reduces the odds of getting the good duties. But at least it’s a reasonable choice for a guaranteed outcome. But having duties like increased healing received for the party would be interesting. Or the ability to give everyone temp HP on hitting multiple enemies, which could stack with similar talents. You get the idea.
Essentially, I would like the ability to mitigate and remove the RNG mechanic of duties (or fully embrace it and get even more duties, but as a choice where I can always choose what I want). This brand of output RNG is not fun. Yes, output, because you go in knowing you will get 2 or 3 of 5, but if you want a specific amount, not getting that is not fun. Technically the output RNG of red items is also not fun, but that’s another matter entirely.
Additionally, I would like for more ways to fulfill every duty’s requirements. It should not be an AND system, but an OR system, where 1 option is a CHANCE to get it early, and the other option is a GUARANTEE to get it eventually. It should not rely on player map knowledge, E.G. grims and tomes. However, allowing duties to randomly be completed on picking up grims or tomes would also be fine, since you’re adding options to get it sooner, not the chance to never be able to get it period.
Ultimately, I really like grail knight. It’s a good mix of support, utility, and deleting chaos warriors with the push of a button. However, the duty system adds very, very bad RNG to a game that already has way too much in the way of bad RNG, and that aspect of grail knight needs to be heavily tweaked somehow.
What’s wrong with the power duty?
After playing him some more I’d like to see the following:
For an active skill you have available every 40 seconds? Other than that, these kills count as melee kills. If you have chosen Lady’s Wrath and you kill one or two Chaos Warriors you will gain lots of THP.
