GPU crash

Issue Type (Required):

Crash - During Play

Issue Description (Required):

Crash Report – Darktide

Issue Summary:
The game crashes while in the Mourningstar lobby, typically during loadout adjustments (e.g., changing talents or gear). The crash occurs after approximately 5–10 minutes spend in operative loadout. It happens regardless of whether I’ve just launched the game or have already played missions.

Crash Behavior:

The screen goes completely black without any artifacts or distortion.

In most cases (4 out of 5), the PC fully powers off.

In one instance, the PC remained on, and background audio continued (e.g., Discord or music playback), but the screen remained black and unresponsive.

Post-Crash Consequences:

After the crash where the PC remained on, all AMD graphics drivers were corrupted.

The system defaulted to Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.

I had to use the AMD Cleanup Utility and reinstall the Adrenalin software to restore full GPU functionality.

After doing this clean reinstall, game performance improved significantly, especially reducing the previously near-constant stutter.

Despite improved performance, I experienced one additional crash with the same symptoms (black screen, system power loss).

System Specs:

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X

RAM: 16 GB

OS: Windows 11

*All this happened in the past 3 days. All drivers were up to date both before I had the issue and now. I also wasn’t playing Darktide in months, and while I had crashes before, it never happened so consistently. A crash with corrupted drivers happened to me just once before while playing DT.

[PC] Do You Use Mods? (Optional):

No, I don’t use mods

Reproduction Rate (Required):

Often (<75%)

Platform (Required):

PC - Steam

Player ID (Optional):

[PC] Crash Report (Optional):

Can’t provide because I never got the option.

Update: Had two more crashes. One occurred when in the Morningstar lobby as soon as I pressed ESC to open the menu. The other one occurred when I was playing the Smelter map. I was with a Steam friend in a party. At the same moment my game crashed, he got disconnected from the game back into character selection with Error 2014.

Both crashes were the same type. The screen goes black instantly and PC depowers.

Sorry to hear this. Since Darktide runs in protected memory, it wouldn’t directly cause your PC to become unresponsive, but it could be highlighting an existing instability as Darktide is particularly demanding and resource-intensive. This might only occur when playing Darktide currently, but may start to happen with other applications over time.

You may wish to look in to the corresponding errors in the Windows Event Viewer, as this may point you in the right direction as to what the underlying issue is. We have instructions for how to check this and more listed here:
