Good tip about tagging

Tagging is very important to me when playing regardless of class and I set the tagging control to the same mouse button as the primary action. However, I noticed that this action spams the same target a lot or several different targets and it bothers me and other players. Do you have any good suggestions on how to get tags without spamming? That is, on which button should I set that control, so that it is efficient and easy to use? I’ve tried everything but somehow nothing works for me and I can’t get used to having good enough tagging performance. What would be your suggestions or ideas?

just tag whatever you want, when you want it. you dont need to spam it. its just a thing of habit, like any hotkey, until it becomes muscle memory. choose whatever key works for you. i use F. having it on spam like lmb is the worst thing you could do. because you will constantly untag something that needs to be tagged. absolutely braindead.

Thanks for the reply, but for example we have a situation where a horde with a trapper and a tox flamer where tagging is absolutely necessary to warn other players, how do I tag effectively in the middle of that crowd, where one mistake means a drop, especially at auric levels .

Binding it to primary fire is just likely to get you kicked I’m afraid. It’s really annoying.

I play WASD, so I have tag on [T] which is an easy reach. And you can quickly flick between the two if you feel it necessary, but really you could just prioritise the trapper as that’s the bigger risk.

I’ve bound it to RMB so I tag what I aim down sights at (or at things I block). Probably not optimal but not spammy either.

Hey, that’s not a bad idea at all, I have to try it right now

I have it bound on my extra mouse button. My only tip is really to find the bind that’s relatively easy to reach.
I’ve used tilde(§) in the past and even Q when i still cycled my weapons with the mouse wheel back in v2 days.
I’ve also heard some using the mouse wheel button for that, but you probably have to get used to cycling weapons with Q and using inventory with 1-5.

Fatshark could also just finally add an option to set a delay on your tagging, so having it on left click would not annoy every person in the lobby.

Yeah binding tag to attack is just a horrible idea. I mean, it ‘sounds’ like a fantastic idea and definitely recognizes how essential tagging really is… but really, doing that is just a disaster that will likely get you muted and/or kicked very promptly.

In other games I’ve always had tag on E, F etc. (using WASD movement obviously). But I realized early that couldn’t work for Darktide. DT is too fast paced and the direction of your dodge really matters. You can’t just compensate for a busy index finger that’s on F to tag, by dodging left or back with A/S instead. There’s every chance that the other directions are compromised. Yet tagging in DT is so much more than just some “fyi” for your team, it needs a key that in no way overlaps with movement or combat.

So I put the tag on the “browser forward” mouse thumb button (I have a G502, yee it’s uggo but a fantastic mouse)! I also put the weapon special on the front extra trigger button (next to LMB), sprint/dodge on Space, crouch&slide on LShift, and finally jump on LCtrl.

It’s odd compared to what I usually do, but works really well! There are no conflicts and I can basically do all vital actions at the same time. For example LCtrl to jump might sound weird, but between how rarely you need to jump vs. how often you need to sprint & dodge, and how you absolutely need to be able to crouch & slide while sprinting & dodging but you never need crouch while jumping (or vice versa), it plays out perfectly. Likewise I don’t need weapon special at the same time I’m already using LMB to attack, so there’s no conflict there either.

Mouse5 is a good choice to put tagging on. I left it on mouse3 personally, and have M5 bound to VC/M4 special action.

I have it set to a sidebutton on my mouse.
Spoil yourselfe with a nice mouse with some extra buttons.

Also dont spamtag it’s annoying and haven’t seen it so much lately thankfully.
But on the other hand havent seen much taging at all.

Always try to tag disablers pox bursters so others can see them or crushers if they are in a messy hoard situation but mostly for my self so I see the outline of them and don’t get overheaded

Tagging being very important is why you shouldn’t bind it to primary action. Think about why or when you want to tag something. There isn’t actually 100% overlap with when you want to shoot or swing at that exact thing right in that moment. So you’re basically giving up control and options, for the benefit of letting everyone know which rager you’re currently swinging at, which is not only fairly useless, but also incredibly annoying if spammed

Im on M&K and i use “V” b/c left thumb is fairly free in this game (only really use it for jump otherwise).

Yeah tagging just has so many uses really.

  • To make out outlines of priorities & weirdly placed snipers etc. for easy headshots, or marking priority mobs like bursters waddling through a crowd
  • The obvious nades & ammo & medstations, or marking a sniper for a teammate when you can’t deal with it rn
  • Momentarily spamming several targets when spotting huge elite groupings about to close in, but the team is distracted and unaware
  • Instructions like defend here, enemies there, even just a “look here” when you just marked a big ammo for a teammate, but the game doesn’t show it unless they’re really close so they don’t know where to go
  • Tapping it “just in case” to see priority enemies in the dark, or in a messy crowds where you can’t be sure if there’s something there or not
  • Warning teammates about dogs or muties you spotted going their way but you can’t deal with in time
  • Keeping track of enemies about to head into cover or run away so you can keep track of them when they come back
  • ALWAYS tagging bosses so everyone knows where it is and what it’s doing, as well as make out where its soft juicy head of is :smiling_imp:

Etc… I use tagging literally all the time, and most of the time independently of where I’m actually shooting or hitting at.

Or… they could just get ride of the tagging sound and replace it with voice notification.

OR put an option in settings so people can turn off the audio notification.

Seeing as the veteran on certain builds needs to tag everything they fire at to dish out the damage and buffs.

I like the mod For the Emperor, giving alternative buttons for tagging… the go/look there with eye symbol +tag fits so much into what I think should be taggable… like Barrels/chests… I know it might seem overkill but without voicecomms or a textbox alot of the time… any coordination with randoms is helpful… I think what might be less obnoxious is the noise tagging makes be nice to get the red outline in those crowds…

I’ve just used ‘T’. Easy to reach and I’m usually the only one consistently tagging.
