I have been playing Darktide for a little bit now and I have enjoyed the game for what it is worth. I am however curious about the recent update and a feature that has been officially brought to us the players which is the Loadout Previews before a mission starts.
I personally enjoy using this feature when I am playing with friends to help them with their build tuning, if they have questions about it that is; or even just being able to quickly show the stat sheet of my own weapons. However; this does open up to the realm of possibility with having people who I queue up with seeing the weapon I am using, and may perhaps believe it is subpar to their own standards, which can lead to an unsavory interaction between the party before we are even going into the zone as a team.
I really don’t care tbh. I know I can just mute or ignore the person and enjoy my game; but why are we adding something into the game officially that can create such a toxic environment before a match even begins when people have been requesting features such as scoreboards for post game detailed review, however that is axed indefinitely by FatShark employees themselves for the chance of it bringing toxicity to the game (post match, mind you.)
I am just genuinely curious as to the decision behind this and wanted to know if it was possible to get a response as I have heard your company is more receptive on the forums than other avenues.
I’d argue that the potential griefer not seeing your weapon, but instead seeing how you perform with it in game is just as likely.
Haters gonna hate.
And just so you know, people been seeing our equipment using mods for months now, and a lot of us just wanted the ability to see eachothers gear so we can quickly change builds if we feel like it will help.
I’ve yet to see any hostility based on weapon strength, usually people will just leave and requeue instead, and I see plenty of that.
Another way to see it is that right now, due to XBOX having just joined the fun, the game is inundated with new players. Most of them have barely learned the basics of surviving and they are already jumping into Auric. With such a wide array of skill levels and gear being fielded in the hardest content, I doubt anyone is going to kick up a fuss about how you built your weapon.
And finally, most experienced players don’t consider “perfect weapons” even remotely required to do well, just a good understanding of the survival techniques (1v1 against specials etc).
In a related topic though, I do get hassled about my TRUE LEVEL because of mods, every other game.
“oh my god, how long you been playing???”
“Leave me alone!!!”
And people seemed astonished when I suggested that the use of True Level may introduce prejudice against players I’d like to believe that the ones who open their mouths are in the minority
Some people just have nothing better to do, I guess, than be arse holes on the Internet I don’t want a reason to assume less of someone before playing the game, so I prefer to avoid True Level. I don’t think you can honestly look at someone with 30 (+5) beside their name and not judge them against someone with 30 (+500).
Re: the OP, I think the main aim is to allow you/your team make more informed decisions about your loadout. If I can see that you’re taking a Flamer/Purgatus staff, I can opt to take a different weapon to have a more well-rounded team loadout.
Granted, that doesn’t really explain potentially enabling toxicity via detailed inspection, but it may partially explain why the feature was added
