Gamepass x Steam cross-play/cross-save

I can not find an actual answer - just “well maybe who knows perhaps but to be decided nyesn’t” idiocy, so I’m going to make a new thread.

Will the gamepass version have:

  1. Crossplay with Steam? Is the PC community going to be split from day1?

  2. Be save-compatible with Steam? If my gamepass runs out/the game leaves gamepass and I decide I like it enough to buy, do I have to get it on windows store if I do not want to lose my progress? This ties into question one, obviously, about splitting the community.

Hi @Shaelyia this is the offcial response that was part of community update during pre-launch beta:
Will crossplay and cross-save be available?
We see the value in cross-play and cross-save and fully intend to support cross-play shortly after launch. Cross-save is more complex to execute and still being investigated.

In short, to your questions:

  1. Unfortunately yes, at least for a while, community will be split
  2. No cross save atm and not sure if there will ever be
