Game fails to launch on official realm (likely due to EAC)

Issue Type (Required):

Crash - On Launch

Issue Description (Required):

The game is unable to launch due to EAC, in a similar manner to this issue (EAC - Waiting for Game and then game doesn't load). I am able to join the modded real just fine, and EAC has no information in the logs described in that same issue (the logs basically say no issue, but I’ve posted them in case that’s helpful). I’ve reinstalled twice, swapped to another drive, verified integrity of game files, and restarted + killed EAC processes to try and force a reset.

Concretely, the launcher loads correctly, and the game window opens, but after the window shows “initializing…” and “waiting for game…”, then the process is apparently killed (The window closes and I can’t find any VT2 process other than the launcher). My CPU utilization goes to zero, and I’ve tried waiting ~5 minutes just in case I missed something, to no avail.

This issue is intermittent with a ~20% occurrence rate since PvP launch, but as of this week has made the game unplayable; I’ve been unable to launch in the standard realm this week. I did play a single game on modded realm two weeks ago, but has success launching since then, so I can’t pinpoint why it’s totally broken now. Note that, unsurprisingly perhaps, I’ve never had any issues with my computer before the PvP updates and windows 11 (similar timing in my case, which makes diagnostics tricky), and I’ve played VT2 on this computer since I got it ~7 years ago.

Note that I’ve attached a console log for 3 days ago, but I believe this is when I attempted to run on the modded realm (I can’t find any console or crash log for my more recent launch attempts by time/date). I can verify that if needed

Minor update: after reading through Game Not Launching on Official realm - #8 by loftie and https://support.fatshark.se/hc/en-us/articles/360007853137–PC-How-to-Resolve-Easy-Anti-Cheat-Errors I removed the certificates, installed EAC, and verified the game files (i.e. redownloaded certificates) to no avail. Without an obvious error I’m unwilling to try everything listed in the EAC error list, but I’m happy to try stuff if there’s a way I can find the underlying error (rather than a blank screen with no process and no apparent crash logs).

Sorry to hear this @Checkmate50

There are a few things worth checking based on data in your logs:

Firstly, please add appropriate Anti-Virus and Firewall exceptions for both Vermintide 2 and Easy Anti-Cheat:

  • vermintide2.exe in \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer Vermintide 2\binaries
  • vermintide2_dx12.exe in \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer Vermintide 2\binaries_dx12
  • EasyAntiCheat_EOS.exe in C:\Program Files (x86)\EasyAntiCheat_EOS

Next, perform a ‘Selective Startup’ to disable background applications in case external software is conflicting/being flagged by EAC:

  1. Press the Windows key
  2. Type ‘msconfig’ and select ‘System Configuration’
  3. On the ‘General’ tab, select ‘Selective Startup’
  4. Deselect ‘Load startup Items’
  5. Reboot your PC

If the error no longer occurs after having performed the Selective Startup, try re-introducing your programs one-by-one to determine which is causing your issue.

Lastly, could you please try disconnecting any additional input devices e.g. Xbox controller, and then check to see if Offiial realm launches correctly?
