Sorry to hear this @Max536

As the launcher is not starting, please try our launcher solutions here:

Please let me know how this goes.

I have the same issue on Windows 11 - 23H2 22631.4169

The game’s play button turns into the blue “Stop” button for a few seconds in Steam, and then reverts to the green “Play” button. No splashscreen appears, the launcher does not open. I have an identical issue with Friends vs Friends, another game that uses EAC.

I’ve followed the launcher issues solutions and none helped.

Hm okay, could you try reinstalling/repairing Easy Anti-Cheat?

  1. Navigate to: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer Vermintide 2\installers\EasyAntiCheat
  2. Run the EasyAntiCheat_Setup installer and proceed as instructed

Otherwise, it may be worth ensuring Anti-Virus and Firewall exceptions are in place for both Vermintide 2 and Easy Anti-Cheat. You’ll need to add the following exceptions:

  • vermintide2.exe in \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer Vermintide 2\binaries
  • vermintide2_dx12.exe in \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer Vermintide 2\binaries_dx12
  • EasyAntiCheat.exe in \Program Files (x86)\EasyAntiCheat

Please let me know how this goes!

Hello, I have done all the above and now the application tries to start, but it then gives me a windows that states “Please use the 32-bit version of the game”.

It also gives me an error window with the following error code:

GUID: e524a74a-111e-4a6f-8566-b3c25c18a505
Log File:
Info Type:

Hm okay  Next, can you please try the following:

  • Check you have latest Windows updates installed
  • Check you have the latest Steam client updates installed
  • Fully close Steam, restart your PC and re-launch Steam
  • Ensure that both Steam and Vermintide 2 are installed on the same drive
  • Try starting Steam as an Administrator
  1. Right-click on the Steam icon on your desktop
  2. Select ‘Properties’
  3. Click on the ‘Compatibility’ tab
  4. Enable the ‘Run this program as an administrator’ checkbox and select ‘OK’

To run Vermintide 2 (and the launcher) as Administrator:

  1. Navigate to the Vermintide 2 Steam directory \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Warhammer Vermintide 2
  2. In the ‘Launcher’ folder, right-click on Launcher.exe and select ‘Properties’
  3. Click on the ‘Compatibility’ tab
  4. Enable the ‘Run this program as an administrator’ checkbox and select ‘OK’
  5. In the ‘binaries’ folder, right-click on vermintide2.exe and select ‘Properties’
  6. Click on the ‘Compatibility’ tab
  7. Enable the ‘Run this program as an administrator’ checkbox and select ‘OK’

Please let me know how this goes!

I have just tried the above steps. I still get the “Please use the 32-bit version of the game” window, but now a game window boots up and gives me a “Backend rejected the challenge response” server error message.

I also have the following message box appear at the top right of the screen

Sorry to hear that hasn’t worked. That’s interesting - something definitely isn’t playing nicely with EAC.

Please can you try deleting EAC Certificates and then repairing EAC:

  1. Navigate to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer Vermintide 2\EasyAntiCheat
  2. Delete the ‘Certificates’ directory
  3. Navigate to: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer Vermintide 2\installers\EasyAntiCheat
  4. Run the EasyAntiCheat_Setup installer and proceed as instructed
  5. Then use the ‘Verify Integrity of Game Files’ option as instructed below

Please let me know if there’s any change afterwards.

Sometimes system files can get corrupted or just suddenly un-trusted by the EAC, it can be worth a shot to try running CMD as admin and doing the “sfc/Scannow” scan. Even if it doesnt find anything it might fix the EAC trust issue.

There have been prior cases like that.

I tried to do an sfc /scannow and it did not find anything.

I then cleared the EAC Certificates and ran the setup tool to repair it and now we are back to the game not booting at all, not even the launcher starts up when I press Play on Steam.

This is certainly a stubborn issue! As the launcher is failing to open at all, now might be a good time to retry solutions from the initial launcher FAQ article that I linked, specifically repairing your .NET Framework installation and to try verifying your game files.

I can only apologise for the faff of all of this :frowning: hopefully we’ll get to the bottom of it soon!

I just reinstalled the .net framework using the latest version 8.0.8. I then uninstalled the game, cleared the files in the steam common folder and the appdata folder.

I then reinstalled the game, but the launcher is not starting. I tried enabling the launcher bypass in the steam beta options, and the game boots up but gives the backend rejected error.

I’m admittedly a little stumped by this. I wonder if you have anti-virus/firewall that may be quarantining or blocking the launcher somehow. I recommend to check this just in case.

Otherwise, to confirm, do you have latest Windows updates installed?

You could also try reinstalling Visual C++ Redistributables. Please uninstall the existing version of the Visual C++ 2015-2019 Redistributables, reboot your PC and reinstall from the Microsoft website: Latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads | Microsoft Learn

Apologies that this issue is causing such an inconvenience!

I have reinstalled the c++ redistributal with the latest verion 8.0.8.

I would very much prefer to avoir punching holes into my firewall and my antivirus to play a video game if possible.

Hm okay. It may be that firewall/anti-virus is the blocker here. Did you add the .exe exceptions that I posted a few comments back before?

I appreciate that you don’t want to compromise system security, so I don’t recommend to disable either - but adding exceptions for the game and launcher executables might do the trick (unless you tried this already, in which case ignore me!)
