bots at least stay near you and dont charge headless, pulling all sorts of crap
sm2 does a decent job and so far when actively playing i had no problems clearing all maps on the hardest difficulty
(which at the time was lethal, gonna try absolute if im getting back into the game)
solo with bots.
so i either play duo with a buddy or alone for if i dont HAVE to put up with strangers, i dont.
playing with randoms you most of the time have to play around their shenanigans, bots just follow you and do what theyāre supposed toā¦
so if darktide had, like vermintide, bots in classes of your creation and loadout, iād sure give it a try
really, this age old crap again?
you deal with people long enough, you eventually come to the point where everyoneās an 4sshole until proven otherwise
We waited 2 years, how many do you think they need?
What I read here is⦠yes.
EXACTLY
Their problems are:
they use worst weapons of the game⦠who use here a catachan sword??? who use a headhunter? answer is⦠the bots.
they have generic build. You donāt get synergies like in a real team and various talents that can make a run easy
The solution: let us use our bots. VT2 has it. A mod permits it in Darktide solo mod, so thatās possible. Put a revolver / boltgun / IAG + Combat axe to your bots, and the game become more easy than with players that rushā¦
Of course, there are other problems. They canāt carry anything. They could allow us to transfert a book to the bots.
They donāt know how to use heavy hit on melee weapons⦠here I donāt know if it is possible to make them enough smart for thisā¦
PS: yes we can see player using a catachan sword or a headhunter, or a lasgun MK IV (the worst)⦠but less than player using CA, DS IAG columnus, revolver or Boltgun
I think they would loose.
Two different questions, two āyesā. Each one addresses a different question. So the first is answering the question āCan I play Darktide solo?ā.
Could you attack at the release? no
They said āwillā.
But 2 years later, I can feel that they do not fulfill a promise made.
I really would like that, now, they communicate on this.
The situation has lasted too longā¦
@FatsharkStrawHat I suppose we canāt get news? I perfectly know how things should work and that you cannot communicate if it was not approved. But could you pass the message that now we would like a progress on this topic?
We donāt ask that you redo the game⦠but there are things easy to implement that could give new options for players.
Implementing a true solo mode (so without bot) would require more work. But allowing us to play with our chars as bots in a private game, can be done next week. Mods are written that allow to play with our chars⦠and private games are restricted to 2 players, thereās just a need to change that to 1. And to improve drastically the bot efficiently you just need to change their melee and ranged weapons.
One point I would like to remind is that the answer was starting by:
«Now we are confident in our Dedicated Servers»
this means that they had no intention to permits us to play offline.
If someone waits for an offline mode, I am sorry to point that they never promised that.
maybe instead of having it run on an official server, they could just make it so that the PC of whoever is playing solo is what actually loads and all that?
offline and solo are two different things. you can have a solo mode that allows you to connect to the actual servers in an effort to keep you from cheating to get 1000000 plasteel and 50000 diamantine, offline however would just mean that keeping players from getting unlimited everything would mean keeping the anti-spawning think on the players individual computers/consoles.
and how can you be so sure of that? have you ever thought that maybe they just arenāt on the forums and arenāt playing darktide because the mode they want isnāt in the game?
Solo is constantly requested by new players and pulls pretty decent support when mentioned on Reddit.
I also think itās going to happen for several reasons:
As you mentioned itās already possible via mods, except that you donāt get rewards/progression (which I think is important even for PC players who can mod).
Itās good for the optics of the game for more players to be on playing at any given time, and solo players will count towards this.
It shouldnāt cost anything server-wise because it could/should be done as self-hosted.
With bots like in VT2, where you play alongside your other kitted-out characters, solo players will very likely play outside of their preferred class (at least temporarily) to level up their bots. Good for metrics, good for getting people hooked deeper into the game.
And playing alongside your other characters will encourage (some portion of) solo players to purchase cosmetics for all classes, which is of course good for the gameās continued development.
At some point, inevitably, the game will start to sunset and lose enough players that living with bots with be necessary. And so any improvements to bots made for solo mode now will be a good investment for the future.
