Frame gen users - do you cap FPS in game?

Highly recommend to cap it, since Frame drops. You notice that even with high Frames obvioulsy when it jumps around 40fps or so. Capping definetly!

BTW if you RTSS(Riva Tuner Statistics Server) you dont need to do your .ini file.

Just set it to whatever on Global or Game specific. Game specific however doesnt work for all Games, so Global does evry time

So stuff like this is where people get the weird idea that increasing FoV is bad, or that frame generation is a good idea or that capping your fps to refresh rate is somehow necessary on games that don’t have weird bugs or input lag with an uncapped framerate.

Now that is interesting. Explains why I don’t get the same lag people complain about when hordes spawn, cause all my settings are on lowest.

Limit it at 70-80 in all games I play. Don’t see a point into wasting PC’s resources on something I won’t even see or feel different.

This only makes any kind of sense if you’re running a 60hz monitor.

But applies to base FPS, not frame gen. If use 2x Frame gen to reach 120FPS, then input latency is as if no frame gen at 60FPS.

You keep your DT frames capped at 70-80 after the hive scum patch??

I do, why?

Because the renderer is broken, drops frames, stall, has trouble destroying future frames etc

My second pc is 10700 with 2070 and the game is borderline unplayable when capped at the 70-80 frames range because of that, a stuttery mess!

It’s such a CPU bound game, even with lowest graphics feel 120fps won’t be stable.

Darktide might fare better with SMT/Hyperthreading off in bios. I’ve tried with process lasso and windows CPU affinity command, but frame times not as good as turned off in bios.

From DSO gaming website. Shows 6 or 8 core might benefit. But not 4 core.

Doing my own test. Turning off SMT in bios yields better frame times.

Of course this will harm performance in other games which are more multi threaded/make use of more threads. i.e Racing games, flight sim, open world, paradox strategy games etc


Problem with a lot of YouTubers they do tests like this 4800Mhz vs 6000Mhz tuned with max trefi RAM. Then they say it makes no difference.

But they should show the lower frame times or even FPS variance graphs over one run or more.

This game really needs a benchmark tool.

Yeah the latency will always feel better. It’s like going back and playing half life on an rtx 5080, it’ll feel better at the same max framerate of your monitor than a game that runs at a third of the framerate.

Will be interesting to see what hardware unboxed does with animation error testing.
