Frame drops and performance loss since Unlocked and Loaded. Only slight improvement since the last hotfix

Issue Type (Required):

Performance

Issue Description (Required):

I’ve been having consistent performance issues where frames are getting dropped. Prior to Hot Fix 1.5.4 it was constant as soon as I load in the Morning Star but now that seems to be better and it builds up quickly when deplyoed on a mission to the point where it is unplayable.
I have reinstalled the game, verified the integrity of the game files multiple times and all drivers are up to date for my hardware.

I have put all of the graphic options to their lowest as well as reduce resolution to 1080p from 1440p ( I usually play a custom/high quality build) but the issue is still present. I don’t see anything with regards to graphical performance in the known issues of the last few patch notes and was wondering if anyone else was affected?

All of hte AMD FSR settings were previously disabled before the hotfix and I have confirmed them as disabled since as well but, again there has been no improvment.

I’m running this on a AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor, 32GB of RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 and it’s loaded on an SSD and the machine is running Windows 10 as its OS.

My has not changed in some time so this is not and issue due to new pice of hardware and Darktide is the only game that I play that is affected games like Frost Punk, Helldivers 2 and Space Marine 2 are all working as they were before I started having issues with Darktide.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

The only two things I was going to say were: “are you sure your graphics settings are what they were before” which seems to be the case.

And: how many missions have you played with the reduced performance? DT has always had some shader rebuilding issues after updates for some and that goes away after enduring it for a few missions.

I can’t tell you how many as that’s never happend to me but it shouldn’t be very many, maybe 2 to 4. (?)

One last thing I just thought of; have your launcher setting stayed the same? Is the amount of threads the game is running on the same / at the maximum? Cuz they should either be the same or one below the maximum.

Sounds really similar to what I’m experiencing. Except the Unlocked & Loaded update actually fixed everything (Nvidia/Intel CPU). Game was running smooth and flawless… but after 1.5.4. it’s completely reversed.

You might’ve seen the thread that I started regarding this.

Like you, it’s a stuttering mess, no graphics settings are changing anything even on Low. The card’s fans are working overtime and the system is running hot.

I have no idea what they did behind the scenes, but they really need to address this.

I’ve sent this over to the team. Thanks for reporting!

As far as I know my graphics settings didn’t change until I actively changed them as part of my own testing.

I’ve not played missions to completion as like I said it was unplayable, since it’s started happening I’ve tried to do two or three missions max and again, had to abandon them part way through.

As far as I know the launcher settings have stayed the same yeah. As for number of threads, I wouldn’t know how many the game was being played on before hand or now tbh.

If your issues was due to shaders, it would’ve gotten better by now.

Since you didn’t actively change that amount, it would’ve used the default value in both cases which shouldn’t cause all these issues.

Unlucky your solution wasn’t that simple.

One last hailmary I got for you: try diabling your graphics cards overlay software or any other overlay you can think to try (steam included). A buddy of mine recently had all of his games start to stutter and lag for as long as he had Nvidia Overlay enabled. Turning it off, fixed all his issues. Then again, in his case, that affected every single game, not just DT.

I tried a couple of your suggestions and I saw some improvement. It usually occurrs in mission and sometimes in the Mouringstar as well.
I found the option you mentioned regarding the number of threads in use and it was set at 13 I assume by default as this wasn’t something I was aware of to even notice. My CPU’s an 8 core 16 thread one so I knocked that down to 6 instead.
I also turned off the Geforce overlay, I’ve not yet tried the Steam one though.

After logging in the performance was better in the Mourningstar, much better and when I started a mission it was also fine. It was only about a quater of the way into the mission I got frame drops, this time I persevered through and it cleared up again to running smooth until the latter part of the mission where I started losing frames again.

So it’s an intermittent issue (the worst sort of issue). Again I’ve not had similar issues as I’ve been playing HD2 all week without issue.

Thanks for your suggestions though it has been appreciated.
