Flamestorm staff damage is kinda crazy

Flamestorm staff with lingering is kinda crazy:

It was parting waves with Geheimnisnacht skull + twins + vanguard on cata.
The run took 51 minutes.

And here same modifiers on official realm on against the grain:

Aside from the outrageous monster damage in the second run i cant say i find the number too outrageous given teamcomp lacking other AOE clear + the most likely outrageous amounts of chaff + time needed.

hmm i have a recording as well he melted those skull buffed armoured units  even chaos patrol werent a big problem with skull, for me it was quite surprising.

Hold up O_O

That does really not sound right, suddenly its a whole 'nother ballgame…though considering the monster damage perhaps i should not be too surprised it was generally applicable.

Lingering flames in general with good kiting on a staff with good DOT numbers is decent for long kiting games, like you might have on Cata 3 (though I’m sure the skull+cata+vanguard makes them more cleave/stagger resistant leading to a more DOT/AOE meta than you’d have on Cata 3). Was flame storm buffed at some point, or did you have to slowly wear them down?

I was playing twins with the skull, and I got around 200k with the beam staff + lingering flames on battle wizard. I was mainly just stacking power bonuses and trying to light things on fire and then kite them. When a burning enemy dies 3 second cooldown reduction, once you get that going, you also get a nearly constant cooldown as enemies die out as long as the horde keeps coming, and something is always burning, always dying.

lingering was buffed with sienna rework.
Here are some timestamps:

Yeah, I don’t know what’s going on there, I’m used to that staff being somewhat mediocre. Is it the lingering flames stacking again or something?

No it is the normal build without any bug happening.

try it on beam staff, it gets high DOT

Nah, Lingering just somehow lets the staff reach a stronger DoT than it can without Lingering, as far as I know that’s always been there. There’s no bug, it’s just a single DoT about as strong as one top level Beam Staff one, but Flamestorm can apply a DoT to 50 enemies at once with a single tick. Works similar to Beam Staff in that you have to keep an enemy in the firestream to build up to the strongest DoT level.

The flamestream itself murders hordes, but the DoT is surprisingly strong against super armor and monsters. Its damage profile curiously is much worse against normal armor than other armor types.

The staff is really strong when you have lots of higher health pool/mass enemies to cut through, like with the skull.

Also flamestorm dots tick much faster. And the damage per tick is higher than beam staff aoe attack. It has the highest damage per tick and the fastest ticking one of all aoe attacks of the staves. And yeah the damage profile to the different enemy types is somehow bit weird. As @LethalChef said if you have much health in front of you and super armor units it really shines. And maybe shines even a bit too well imo

I meant the beam’s DoT, not the shotgun blast. That one also levels up until it gets to a similar power level as Flamestorm’s DoT. The shotgun blast deals a similar DoT as any other Sienna thing that sets things on fire, it’s Beam level 3 and full Flamestorm DoT that are the outliers and do way more DoT damage than anything else.

Cool, didn’t know that. Still boring weapon
