Yup braindead change. Totally wrong way to go about it. It doing 100% toughness was a problem, it invalidated taking increased toughness, they should have just made it do 100 toughness damage bypassing toughness DR then ticking 10per second and keeping the damage through toughness exactly the same as it always has been.
He is half right, their role is mostly area denial, in a practical way they apply DOT in an area so you are forced to avoid going through it.
Of course the damage must be somehow a threat otherwise it would be ignored and shrugged off.
Tbh I would actually be on board with the change if the fire area would have been reduced instead of increased, to allow more reliable counterplay.
It would be nice to either do massive damage OR slow the player and deal less.
IIRC you could never safely jump through enemy fire, just barrel trails. You can tell by the visual effect – could be mistaken though, let me know.
If you have enough toughness you’re better off.
Disagree. It was a bit wild that it would -100% your toughness no matter what.
At any rate, it’s worth playing around with much much more to get a proper feel for things. I like the direction, but I’m a bit scared about bigger flame AoE!
That sounds way weaker, and the issue of ‘dipping a pinky toe’ in the flames is still present. I think the change we got is better than the one you propose.
Your entire post is cringe. Noone wanted this, fire was fine as it was.
The toughness damage change is fine, but fire should still do the same, or only slightly more health damage ramping up, only once it starts ticking. It currently removes way too much.
I definitely think the numbers need tweaking-the damage ramp up feels far too aggressive at the moment.
The damage floor is also too high. It might be the tick up is already affected by the toughness so by the time it gets to health it’s already 3 or 4 ticks into the damage ramp up.
It’s nice to be able to jump across flame.
Less nice when you consider that Specials and flamers are hard coded to insta douse you as soon as you are CCed
It’s pretty much a death sentence
With 134 toughness, it takes about 215ms for me to go from full toughness to 0. Then, of course, I get stunned from losing my toughness, which forces me to lose at least half of my health before I can actually get out of the fire.
Fire is definitely a lot more lethal than it used to be.
You could never jump through without taking any damage.
You would still take a hit each time you land, but jumping while in fire, did decrease the number of damage ticks you received.
Because the aoe is now bigger than before, any time that you would have gotten hit before, you will now be hit 2-3times.
With 2-3 hits, the fire still deletes your toughness as well as damaging your health.
If you are already at low toughness, the fire will now also take half your health, while before, you would just have lost your remaining toughness.
Because the aoe is bigger now, any time that you would have gotten hit before the update, you would have been better off than in the same situation after the update.
On top of that, because the aoe is much bigger now, there are situations where you get hit when you would not have gotten hit before and situations where you are completely locked in place now, which would have been no issue before.
If you are unfortunate enough to not be able to avoid a fire, it would have cost you a bit of your health to get out of the situation, before the update.
Now it will likely just kill you, even from full hp.
If you are kinda locked in place and 2 flamers appear, they can basically instant kill you from full hp and toughness, from around 20m away.
Im 100% right, i just shouldve phrased it that they shouldnt primarily be damage dealers, i wasnt implying the damage should be removed, but its not the primary purpose, look at vermintide gas rats for reference.
Sounds like someone doesnt play very high difficulties or is being very disingenuous to the ability of bombers to throw bombs from places you cant see, thus unable to stop them. The idea that you only have to dodge the fire like you aren’t sometimes stuck in a pile of maulers or crushers when they spawn is very silly.
Make bombers only throw when in LoS of one person.
Another thing with fire, is that enemies don’t give a flying f about fire
They stand in it, while you can’t even see through it (on higher visual settings)
It would really pain me to have to start playing like J-sat
To be fair, we do the same thing with zealot fire grenades.
And I’m still never sure if it’s safe fire or deadly fire hahaha
This game has 4 kind of fires, and the only ones that have different colours are the ones that do the same thing.
Find the mistake
Zealot fire is yellow and all bad fire is not, thats my method.
shades of yello-range hahaha
I mean, it’s not as if ADDING CHEMICAL COMPOSITES TO FIRE COLOURS IT
Now gimme blue fire
Well if it has red or orange in it, its bad fire. Theres Red fire from bombers and flamers, more orange fire from fire barrels, and green fire from tox flamers, so straight yellow is safe.
