It is taking five to ten minutes to load into character selection. If I stop the process Darktide, it then continues to take five to ten minutes to load in the game.
Steps to Reproduce (Required):
From Launcher, select Start…then wait a long time. I typically use mods, but after the last update, I stopped using them due to stability issues. I recently did an integrity check the other day.
I have noticed several times that the entire background song has to finish playing before I can load into the character selection.
This may help alleviate your issue, there is a mod called Psych Ward and another called Modular Menu Buttons where you can do pretty much everything from the character select screen, so you do not have to load into the morningstar.
(and you should prob put your PC specs here, could be a SSD issue)
All my games are stored on an SSD, and the OS is installed on an HDD. I believe the issue is a bug in the game’s software. I can bypass the loading window where you press the space button, but it may take up to 5 minutes to load into Character Selection. I know it is a bug because exactly when the song ends, it lets me into the Character Selection. If it were a load issue, then it would be at random times.
Specs: AMD Ryzen 9, 7900 12-Core Processor with 128 GB of Memory using a Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 with dual 1080p monitors. I know I need to upgrade my monitors. Additionally, I have a 2 Gbps fiber connection to the home for use with a Wi-Fi 6e router. I just bought a Wi-Fi 7 router two weeks ago, which I will install today.
I do run my OS from an SSD, I highly recommend putting your OS on an SSD and only using an HDD for backups.
Also have you tried a direct cabled connection to the router? Its worth a shot.
My computer does alright but its no beast, yet I load in to the game very quickly, so it does seem like something strange is happening.
Your right. Yeah, that way of thinking is ancient. I should have two SSD’s one for OS and the other for games. I will definitely look into running an Ethernet cable to my office. My office is in the front of the house and the router is in the laundry room with a wall mounted cabinet for the router. It would probably be about $300 for the drop but worth it.
Even just try and run a loose cable for a quick test and, while it might be a pain, you could install the OS on your current SSD and see if those two things make a difference.
I know installing the OS on the current SSD might not be possible, but if you can try both those things temporarily and it still doesnt work we remove them as possible issues in the meantime and you might save a bit of money, although its still worth it anyway imo, not just for Darktide.
When I got my First SSD it was big enough for the OS and left a couple hundred GB which was enough for Darktide and some free space for the virtual RAM. I do try and leave 50-100GB free on my OS drive minimum.
