Favourite environment zone

Dunno about you guys but I’m very excited to play the new carnival map. Maps are the things I want more of in abundance so any are welcome.

Got me wondering about general favourites zones within the community though. Which zone do you enjoy the most and which would you like to see more maps made for?

I think mine has to be the hourglass. I just love how different the hot, arid, bleached and dusty environments are and the music that goes with it is sublime.

I’d create a poll but it’s not available on the tools drop-down :person_shrugging:

Best looking for me is the Torrent. So much detail, like the raft near the start of Vigil Station.

Personally, I love Carnival, and I want more in the Gloriana complex as well as new assassinations in both Throneside and Hourglass (both being Dreg Sorcerer)

I hadn’t thought of Tancred as an option until you listed it. Could scratch that boarding action itch I’ve seen suggested.

Excellent thank you!

Bizarrely the option for poll is there when I am replying but not when creating a new post which is really daft.

I like Hourglass the most, the servitor stack is extremely 40k and awesome to look at and the change up of daylight and sand is great. Plus ‘Embrace of the Chaos Cult’ is the best monstrosity track and its not even close. Relay Station is also one of my most favorite levels for ignoring all side rooms and beelining. Overall its just 3 maps I like playing a lot. Give me Excise Vault back Fat Shark I don’t want to have to wait a week for the best retrieval ending. The vault door opening SFX is peak.

And I really like the idea of the interhab zone for more maps just for allowing hopefully disconnected and traditional VT2 style maps. No offense to the new system but it doesn’t always scratch me, there’s lots of maps like Vigil Station that are easily the worst in the set. And Silo Cluster isn’t even that great either. Which was a waste of how cool the Torrent is visually if I just don’t want to play 2/3s of the maps there.

I have a soft spot for Chasm Terminus and Throneside, but I want more maps with Gloriana too! Having just the one is, well, disappointing. Perhaps they’ll give us more there soon.

Carnival is good too, and I am glad we’re getting another one with the update. Unless I got that wrong.

The Hourglass is ok, but I’ve spent enough time so close to the atmospheric shield and the sands beyond it that I’m good without more missions for it for now!

Hourglass 100%. Love the lighting and less claustrophobic design, wish we had more different settings within the hourglass than just the scrap backyards.

I like the transit hub and carnival visuals the best, but Gloriana has the best music imo – the event music is the usual fare but the combat music is absolute 10/10 bangers. Want more Gloriana!

honestly, hab dreyko.

as much as i hate a crowd of people around me in real life, them barracks got the perfect 40k kind if cozy.

like hell i gonna get mangled in the most violent way tomorrow by an eldritch god suffering terminal boredom, but tonight “lets snuggle up” and dont mind the staircase right over your sleeping back, its your designated spot hand picked by the emperor himself.

some good old memories from jugger/blood of heroe get revived there, like the “hotel” in the vertical wall.

one wild dream and you roll right out of your hammock to drop… how deep exactly? doesnt matter you wont feel the impact.

like i said, “cozy”
people always say die hard is a christmas movie
… if i still had a copy of the movie instead of jingle bells the announcer would declare “one hundred stone…”

It’s kinda bs they removed the random tiny bedroom by the final tree event, that was my home away from home

Huh, interesting how only one person voted for gloriana as their fav biome but most people voted for it to get more maps in. (me included)

Anyway, i love throneside the most because its the most visually comprehensive and memorable. Carnival is my 2nd fav.

tentacle tree always put you the nicest gifts there as well.

I hate sand. It’s rough and coarse and gets everywhere. But not you, water, you’re soft and smooth.

I want a mission in destroyed urban sector of the Throneside. It should feel like an actual warzone, with collapsed buildings, sandbags, destroyed vehicles, craters, etc…

Hourglass is my preferred. However, Gloriana is the only part with only one mission. So, I want more missions in Gloriana.

In terms of visual style I like the hourglass maps a lot. Being able to see an actual skybox, with distant towers partly obscured by sand storms/smog/clouds does way more to communicate the epic Hive City scale than the “internal”/lower-level maps do.

Even maps like Enclavum Baross with it’s beautiful architecture I feel like suffer from the strange enclosed architecture skybox. I know there are hive cities that have “levels” on top of each other, but I really think there should be more places that have a view to a more open sky. Perhaps it would make sense to have openings between large spires in the background (and in the ceiling), where some sun-beams/godrays shine into the map in some locations, and where you can get a hint of the more distant surrounding landscape, and upper levels.

Clandestium Gloriana is beautiful because it communicates the scale better than most other maps. This is at least partly because the cold fog gives the appearance of being an open sky, and there is very distant spires and structures visible in the fog.

I was disappointed in the visuals of the new train map. Again that weird enclosed skybox, and this time it somehow is even worse at communicating scale. It’s not even clear what part of the hive city this train would be traveling in. If this is somehow deep underground, why isn’t it simply a round tunnel, like a metro tunnel or subway?
It’s raining on the train map for crying out loud (yes I know the lore around condensation creating rain internally in hive cities, but it looked better and made more sense in the Torrent maps).
Why isn’t there thunder clouds above us? The map could easily have taken place on the outskirts of the hive city, under an open sky, with the hive city towering up in the background but partly obscured by rain and clouds. It would have looked way more awesome, and would also better have communicated this idea that the train is moving towards the hive city and that this is what we must prevent it from reaching.

What do I want more maps in? Probably Clandestium and Tancred bastion I’d like to see more of. Particularly the prison ship we’ve not seen enough of.

From a gameplay perspective I’ve always loved the metalfab maps the most. For some reason I just like the flow of the game on both Power Matrix, Smelter Complex, and Consignment Yard HL-17-36. The end visuals of Consignment Yard are also pretty cool, though again a missed opportunity to show an open skybox with distant voidships, blurry spires reaching into the upper atmosphere etc.

Oh and Magistrati Oubliette is my absolute favorite gameplay wise. The last room in the Enforcer Station before we take the elevator up to the last bossfight has this amazing atmospheric feel about it. I just like the whole enforcer station appearance-wise. Those architectural details on the columns, the torch-illumination, the slight fog in the air (and IIRC there’s a broken window in the ceiling).

I love the Carnival, its just this den of sin and neon where it feels so right to bring the Emperor’s Wrath onto.
