Favourite environment zone

I’ve played since release and I basically don’t remember any of their names except Hab Dreyko… which I abhor for the finale & how melee-focused it is. The game regularly trolls me by putting me in lights-out Dreyko whenever I’m playing ranged builds.

But the desert maps are my favorites for their warm feel & theme. I also seriously admire the Void Sector something something for its beauty, layout and how different it is. But I’m definitely not a fan of either its start with how shamelessly it exploits barrels & bursters (not a personal issue but half the team tends to fly down or die there on pubs), nvm the constant 360 degree spawns everywhere after. It’s the one map where especially on HISTG I tend to ensure I have ranged protection. Empathic Evasion or the bubble shield, stealth etc. are highly preferred, since you’ll be shot at by gunners from every direction all the time.

I learned a lot of their names back when I was doing the penances but yee, this topic made me realize I’ve gone back to having no clue again. I just know them by look & layout, the names are far too arbitrary for me to remember.

To elaborate on this a bit, this preview looks awesome but gives a totally wrong impression of the train map:

This is how it looks in game. What even is this? Is it supposed to be hive city down below us scrolling by? It doesn’t look like it at all, the scale isn’t communicated correctly. It looks more like we’re driving across my motherboard. The sky is a disaster. Just stop doing these weird upside down buildings with little lights on them please, it looks horrible. It ruins the sense of scale and seems illogical.

The Mercantile/Carnival did it better. Because here at least the foreground objects tells us we are inside the hive city, surrounded by spires. Still I think that skybox is atrocious. The surrounding spires should have been taller and more oppressive, and the skybox should have been a real sky, possibly with dust/sandy-clouds or heavy smog.

The final area in Chasm Logistratum looks awesome, and almost perfect. Only detractor is the weird skybox ceiling again, but it’s much closer to what I imagine it should look like inside a hive city:

Had it simply continued to fade into that gray greenish fog instead of slapping on that weird ceiling with little buildings and lights on it, it would have been perfect. It gives this appearance of continuing beyond how far the eye can see.
