Fatshark has enacted the “Operational silence” edict
I don’t think it’s going to be all hands on deck, as far as I know it’s no longer being developed as a separate game, but as a mode for VT2.
I’m not a fan either, but a part of me is hoping the Unterreik’s 5’s banter will be there.
It’s officially been more than 2 months without any news updates, which is the longest stretch as since game launch. The game is officially dead for the time being.
Fatshark needs to take a break between the Winter and Summer vacations.
Total conjecture - but I wonder about the staff and talent situation over there.
If I was a mid-level system designer or engineer or whatever and I was stuck in the position of watching Darktide fail to meet its potential because of obstinate managers/directors clinging to crappy decisions and processes - honestly I’d probably be looking for work elsewhere.
How much of the key talent that makes Darktide tick has to be missing before the ability to design new stuff or rework systems really starts to be bogged down. Glassdoor comments noted the poor processes and documentation. Makes it really hard to replace key staff when and if they leave.
It may be that FS has a plan or list of things they’d like to do but is struggling to figure out how to actually implement it in any sort of reasonable timeframe.
I feel like emphasis has shifted to PvE mode on Vermintide - and maybe it’s because they still see more long potential in VT2 than even Darktide.
All speculation of course. But it all just seems pretty concerning.
They have 3 separate teams
Yes, and…? They still belong to the same company. That same company can decide at any time that Team 1 deserves more resources than Team 2, and there you’ll have the focus shift between different projects.
Yeah and they supposedly had different teams for console and PC as well. We know how that ended up with both v2 and darktide when xbox port was being developed.
Yeah but you’re forgetting its a video game so magic fairy dust allows you to divide people between projects, and then multiply the output of their work. It’s like if you were catering for an event, but your kitchen got backed up in the restaurant. You’d just say ‘hey guys we need to work harder’ and you’d be totally fine and definitely not impact your schedule in any way. Or if a bunch of plumbers were working on a building and had a catastrophic leak in a recent project. That wouldn’t even be a speedbump.
When it’s a video game, its not actually dividing labor at all because all of this work could totally be done just as fast by 1/2 to 1/3 as many people apparently.
Neither is the case. It’s just the fishtank people being their shy fishy selves as usual. They certainly work on things, every modder who taps into their code knows that.
If you were here for VT1 or VT2, you know the (unfortunate) drill.
It is definitely very unbecoming of them not to have any marketing going on at a time. Easy missed chance for hype and good-will they are not tapping into at all. Instead, people are getting disgruntled because they believe the project is neglected.
Can’t fault you for thinking they’re done, either. I just know it’s not the case.
They really should have separate teams for Versus and Darktide. I think they’re just reverting to their old modus operandi, which is to quietly work on things and never release a statement unless “they got something”.
They’re just not adapting to any changes that happened in the Gaming landscape what customer relations is concerned and it’s quite a shame.
It’s time for them to grow up from the mentality they can run their company like their uncle’s car shop. This never works well in soft dev.
It’s funny, the moment I want to go read glassdoor review about Fatshark the site goes down lol
