and straight up insults are for distinguished people

grow up

Which at the time of Hedge’s statement, did not happen yet. So for all anyone could know at the time, Hedge just made a completely unfounded excuse. Hence the negative reactions.

“this would work if they rebuilt the whole system around making it work!” is not a good argument, it’s just poor coping.

Galactic War system isn’t for Darktide. Leave it for games designed around it. An actual narrative and “moving the plot forward” with more relevant missions would be nice. We’re over a year out and nothing within the plot has changed besides reaching level 30.

Cause DT is not delivering, and HD2 is. Cause DT trying to defend or doesn’t comment on stright antiplayer mechanics, and HD2 situation about balance.

Just like with any art - musician, painter, writer can be a shitty person, but great at what he’s doing. Tolerance and ability to forgive for such things depends on result of your work to some degree

We had a precedent case with VT2 and Fatshark’s longterm support.
Besides why would he outright lie?

I think you’re missing the context of the conversation. It’s a statement by a CM addressing an oft complained about issue, and his explanation was “well, it’s not lore appropriate”. I’m not saying he lied or something, I’m saying it’s a completely empty statement. He might aswell have said “You see there’s certain Gematria constellations that speak against this”, it had zero actual relevance on the actual question and issue other than being used as an excuse for it not being in the game.

The relevance being that while the HD2 dev who was posting was infinitely more inflammatory, he atleast also had actual substance in his posts and was able to defend the design rather than making up random excuses for it. Hence the difference in reception. Even if you disagree, it’s a defensible point he made. When it comes to giving information, the information actually matters.

It’s basically politician/corpo speak vs someone putting things plainly in a rude way. Many people prefer the latter, even if it doesn’t seem so.

Oh, hello, @Ol_Jakal. How’re you doing today?

Jakal, part of managing a community/marketing/public relations is managing expectations

If you’re misquoted or misunderstood and a feature you’re not intending to release at all is what people are expecting it is your job to manage that. They failed in that regard and in that absence of management they created resentment.

They need to do better, but right now we’ve got radio silence, which lets whacky conspiracy theories and confusion breed.

those goons on reddit will misunderstand anything, and i mean anything in the name of demanding what they want. blaming fatshark for the fanbase going to a third party site to huff their own farts all day is just stupid.

even when they’re proven wrong they just keep raving about it until they get what they want or someone forces them to stop. the last five words of this thread title is the truest thing on the forum.

Reddit has really nothing to do with anything, the rancor exists anywhere Darktide is discussed, here, Discord, Steam, etc, and Fatshark isn’t managing…anything. They’re sitting there saying nothing. Even when they’re just a few days ahead of a patch drop they’re telling people they don’t have anything to tell anyone.

When you leave the information space entirely to frothing edgelords while refusing to talk about anything related to your product, it’s on you when your userbase gets testy. In the business world we call that being bad at fundamental marketing and customer retention practices.

the communities in all of those groups, including reddit, twitch, and probably a half-dozen places i’ve never heard of all have bleedover. they can’t control the dialoge everywhere and the goons that want to rant about whatever they dislike will hype each other up on places fatshark doesn’t control and then make the places they do moderate toxic. like you, trying to assign all of the blame for what amounts of a pack of fools constantly repeating lies they told themselves to avoid admitting they obcessed over things not working the way thier gambler’s addiction tells them it should.

no business believes they can control the narrative of their product online, they restrict their ability to even respond to avoid being dragged into irrational nerd fights. the fact we’re having this conversation in an offical forum at all is proof they’re more committed than the vast majority of businesses to interacting with their playerbase, but literally every time they make any comment the playerbase actively takes it in bad faith so they can blame fatshark for their own shortcomings.

FFS, one of the most recent topics is called “Official Fatshark Response: No updates planned for several more months” because “update news coming as soon as we’re ready” wasn’t aggressively hateful enough! This community is literal sh|t-show and constantly makes an effort to be worse because admitting they have an problem knowing how to engage with side-mechanics would force them to admit they wasted their time and plasteel when they could instead have a giant circlejerk thread about it!

Even putting aside crafting i don’t understand how someone can still sit there with a straight face after months and pretend that the game is fine, it’s just everyone else who is wrong.

There are features that have been requested for months that still haven’t been addressed.

Basic quality of life features never get put in and require extensive modding for it to be a reality (Rip anyone on X-box).

Every other hotfix something major and core to the game breaks (Yes, im sorry, enemies just deciding to not spawn is a CORE GAME FEATURE that has broken).

Even barring reporting bugs or going “i don’t like this thing” there is really nothing left to do besides speculate what might be upcoming which in all likely-hood will be 2 new variant weapons, maybe a few new maps, and maybe a touch up to the crafting system.

Riddle me this, what is the point of even suggesting a new feature to be put in if we get 0 feedback on it? Waste of time.

back at you, i don’t get how people can see something in another game and blame the devs for not rebuilding the game to give it to them.

and why would they address them? you asking for something doesn’t make it possible, or worth doing. asking for something just to invalidate the gameplay they’re trying to build isn’t going to slip past them.

“waaah, i want my scoreboard! i want a big flag whenever an special spawns!” take your “quality of life” lies back to reddit. the majority of “QOL” requests i see in any game i play are straight up asking for them to break the game because they’re 1:worse at the the game than they like or 2:unable to blame others for problems they have playing. i don’t even know why they allowed modding.

you should expect this from any game these days anyways, everything’s always broken because everyone’s always rushed. also i never saw any missions that didn’t spwn enemies and i woulda liked to, i can barely investigate the maps as it is with my team bumrushing the whole time. didja know the “market” area only has food shops decorated?

this isn’t even a complaint about the game, you just want them to advertise more stuff. and given how badly the community treats them when they do that, why should they?

oh boo-hoo-hoo, you wanted to feel like you’re working with the dev team. getting mad at them for handling their choices internally is just childish, no developer does that unless they’ve already decided what the suggestion’s gonna lead to. i’ve made plenty of suggestions and i knew they weren’t gonna comment on it because the devs doing the work don’t interact with the players unless they need details on a bug.

this hasn’t been worth my time but your sheer entitlement about how fatshark needs to give you more attention in public pissed me off.

There’s being unable to totally control the narrative, and then there’s abandoning it. Fatshark has abandoned it with Darktide. They’re not saying anything. No company avoids all flak or muffles all criticism, but simply doing nothing doesn’t help or mitigate that. Most players aren’t into or even aware of such drama, but are absolutely going to stop playing/buying when nothing is happening, and the numbers prove that Darktide has a dire retention problem.

As has been pointed out several times before, Fatshark can absolutely make a post about feedback and future plans without getting swamped in frothy edgelords.

I’ve posted this before and I’ll post it again here, the VT2 Versus Alpha test thread got nothing but positive and calm responses. Your assertion that anything they do will only be taken in bad faith and dragged into irrational fights is simply nonsense.

Notice there’s aren’t hundreds of angry replies?

Yes the title was hyperbolic, absolutely. It’s hardly the end of the world, and by videogame industry standards is about as tame as they come, and the tone is still far below what you’ll find in many other games. If Fatshark can’t deal with that level of minor nerd-rage on a forum, then I’m not sure what to say.

When your CM comes out and tells “we don’t have anything to say” but that they’ll try to get a Dev manger to do their job and tell customers anything about what to expect out of your product for the year, and then dumps a patch a week later without notice, and weeks later still can’t get a Dev manager to say squat, you’re not just failing to control the narrative, you’re abandoning it. Simple as.

Ultimately, the community being a literal sh|t-show is Fatshark’s problem however you slice it, they’re the one Fatshark is looking to get money from. Other companies and products demonstrably manage this better, Fatshark has a real fundamental problem here. This community is incredibly tame next to stuff like CS/CoD/WoW/LoL/WoT/WT communities. It’s in the state it is because there are longstanding issues that FS refuses to address, and FS isn’t offering anything to look forward to. We see this reflected in play rates and player retention.

Yeah this whole response really cements there is literally 0 point talking to you.

I think the banner of community laughing stock is a well deserved one.

that doesn’t make it good. saying you’re entitled to act like garbage because there’s people acting worse is itself the reason why all those communities suck so hard and often.

Do I have post the inner machinations of your mind are an enigma, again
