Darktide: Vermintide but more ranged
→ Havoc: Darktide but for the players rear want harder content
→ Mortis: Fortune of Ear but trying to give some form of replayability for more casual players
→ Expedition: Casual Darktide
Mortis Trials is an equivalent to VT1’s Last Stand and Vermintide 2’s Fortunes of War modes, with a spin in terms of featuring randomly picked modifiers for players to alter their experience throughout the length of one encounter,
Havoc is means of implementing a challenging type of content without needing the modded realm, effectively being an equivalent of VT2 Weaves in terms of featuring a casually competitive format,
Expeditions is a short-form indirect equivalent to VT2’s Chaos Wastes (also more diegetic, i.e., with no interface intermissions between gameplay segments), only without rogue-like elements in form of on-the-go build-making and otherwise focused on Adventure fundamentals, with more scattered terror events and no “main” objective to fulfil,
VT2’s Chaos Wastes doesn’t have a true equivalent; not yet, maybe.
time limit doesn’t feel casual. made me think of rolling steel: there’s plenty of time if you keep moving forward but if you have to go back to revive/rescue it’s possible you will run out of time. expeditions have the same sort of feel.
the only extraction game i’ve played is dark and darker. expeditions is missing a big chunk of it if i compare the two, most notably the loot. there’s no possibility of you losing the equipment you brought with you. there’s no possibility of you finding better equipment during the run. no trading of equipment with other players or npc traders. no “quests” where you have to extract with 3 combat stims for the hive scum trader.
the setup is also different. it’s just you and your teammates, there’s no meeting another team that you might join forces with. even in pve dark and darker you might have to compete with other teams for the best loot containers
I’m surprised by so many players saying expeditions are easy or boring. Hard versions are harder than auric maelstroms imo.
I think rather than an entirely different mode, it’s a different spin on their core mechanics, and plays not too differently from the normal games (which I appreciate)
I think the problem was advertising it as “the biggest content drop in the history of the game”: it’s not. But as an addition, I’d say it’s worth a couple of maps, and the loop isn’t horrible, while repetitive and grindy
That’s not my position.
Mine is… there is tons of games with this concept better introduced.
Helldivers 2 is the best example.
But Arc Raiders is great also. Sure, you have to not be reluctant to lack of secure equipment (when you die you drop everything, except the secure pocket that is 1 space).
b) the progress the game “needs” isn’t better gear, it’s people getting better dealing with the circumstances.
what’s the point if I upgrade my rumbler to oneshotting crushers with tech-scrap?
100% red weapons, stronger gear etc only deludes the base game even more, something pure extraction shooters don’t bother with since there are no completely different modes.
c) bonus round: people tuck their tails in havoc at the risk of losing a match
imagine the girlie behavior once you lose your gear as well… nuh-uh
Just want you to know you’re not alone, man. I’m as confused as you on this. I can only conclude that people actually try to sneak around or play on malice when they say this.
the point is it’s fun/funny and I can do the same with any other weapon if I want to instead of focusing on a meta build to do that with far fewer weapons.
And make it only available during the expeditions run as an in-field upgrade(like cod warzone weapon package drop), so it doesn’t affect other modes.
I prefer playing a game that is an extraction shooter, than a fake one.
I simply won’t play this game mode. I don’t care of cosmetics now… and penances, same.
same reason I don’t take mortis seriously, if it aint pushing me on a personal level it aint “fun”, especially oneshotting enemies that should take some effort.
was a chance to demand mechanical skills instead of havoc rainbow crap
different strokes, that’s fine
I prefer darktide to remain 40k quake fast paced style, not slowing at the risk of “losing” gear
I prefer darktide focusing on the tide part of the game. But I dream.
I don’t ask that they change expeditions. I do not care at all of this game mode. I just say that I prefer playing a TRUE extraction shooter, than a total fake one, and a bad one.
