I think an exiled space marine class would be pretty cool. Just shows up to fight chaos until he dies to redeem himself in the name of the Emperor. Already have chaos marines, bolters and chainswords.
That would break the whole game. You can’t have space marines here without making them ridiculously OP and or lore correct. Devs also said there won’t be any because the game can’t portray them good enough while still maintaining any resemblence of balance.
Buuut, I still think they could make a mission where a Space Marine(s) shows up to deal with something really really bad, so you would just see a literal killing machine stomp the horde, destroy whatever needs to be destroyed and then vanish, kinda like in the Space Marine trailers where the guardsmen, on the brink of defeat, see astartes come in and destroy every enemy like it’s nothing. Maybe even have him fight a giant horde, a few monstrosities, demon hosts or a lesser daemon (I am not knowledgable enough to know if the daemon occurance is even possible on Atoma) in the background where you can’t go. You would just see him walk over dead bodies or something like that.
Our rejects are able to easily kill Beasts of Nurgle and Daemonhosts that are all individually much stronger and threatening than a lone Space Marine, a single Space Marine as a boss or as a class wouldn’t break the balance of the game or the lore
Wouldn’t fit the lore, either.
How does a rogue space marine fit into the group, that’s overseen by no less than an a Grand Inquisitor, another Inquisitor, an Ex-Enforcer turned right-hand woman, a centuries old Tech Priest, a former high ranking Officer and to top all that off - An entire battallion of guardsmen and soldiers tasked with killing every single TRAITOR they come across - Which an exiled space marine would be, mind you.
This reminds me to the good old days of people demanding Death Knights as playable character in the WoW alliance holier-than-thou faction. It’s ridiculous, but they eventually got their wishes heard. But Blizzard has hacks for writers, so that’s something else.
This game is sticking more to the source material, so it won’t be a thing.
Doubt. Even though these are lesser demons, the Beasts of Nurgle are friendly puppies that want to lick and pet you (exaggeration, but they are not that powerful, and they are even less here) and the DH we see here are kinda iffy, because they most likely are still in the process of getting possessed - not fully possessed, or a failed ritual of possession. You can see that in the facts that the possessed people still have some control and the daemon being in slumber, meaning the daemon only takes control when you disturb them. DHs are also very variable depending on how much control over the daemon there is, how the ritual was performed etc., so they can be pretty weak, especially if it’s a botched up job like this. Astartes wouldn’t have the slightest issue dealing with the likes of these in here.
Though I agree that the people you play as are ridiculously OP and wouldn’t stand a chance normally. At least not with 4 people against all that. Buut, if this was proper, so many DHs and so much Nurgle presence would be incredibly dangerous for everybody and would be a huge F up maybe even warranting the use of the life eater virus wiping out all life. That’s for sure. But it’s a game made to be interesting, so most of the things are reaaaaally toned down.
The issue here also is, Space Marines are basically the posterboys of 40k, having them be nerfed this way would be pretty bad. I think the way of having them appear just as a background would be the only way to introduce them without it making it iffy.
inquisitorial retinues have all sorts of characters, including lone marines.
but yeah FS should stick to their “no space marines” policy, not every 40k media has to have blueberry scouts in them
You could maybe do those teenager space marines that are space marine scouts that are still in the process of getting their implants and stuff, and don’t wear the full power armor. But probably not what you’re looking for.
disagree, spacemarines in lore are incredibly inconsistent in power, so much so that any argument trying to scale them or put them in context is kinda redundant in the first place…
sometimes they die like flies against chaff troops, they get easily outmaneuvered or trapped.
and yet they are supposed to have incredible combat IQ and Reflexes.
all the while they make nonsensical decision constantly.
sometimes even the weakest of psykers destroyes a squad of marines and sometimes a marine can take on psykers no problem.
tbh i think the 4 characters easily could kill a marine without much trouble.
Edit: don’t necessarily mean without losses, but i mean could the 4 kill a marine, then yes probably, depending on wich book you last read lol
sounds like you have no idea what you are talking about
Oof
all people do is watch Syama Pedersen amamzing works and think they got a grasp how 20+ years of lore looks like
Definitely hoping for Chaos Marine bosses/enemies to start showing up, but I am happy Fatshark have ruled out Astartes turning up on the Imperium’s side.
Now, having a member of the Sisters of Battle, the Chamber Militant of the Ordo Hereticus, in whose name we serve, would be rather interesting. Them or a TechPriest would do nicely as an addition to the happy throng. Or both. Both is good.
He said an exiled space marine, though. An exiled individual is someone who fled from authority or other pursuers into foreign territory, never to return. That’s not something you will see in space marines, or not commonly enough that it should be playable.
Even if the Inquisition sometime have Space Marines as Acolytes, they aren’t the Reject level ones, they are the one on the type of Morrow and Zola, giving their expertise, not their brawn and being sent to defacto suicide missions.
Plus doesn’t make sense alongside the current group. Now I do think that Darktide 2 should not happen, and if they do future tides in 40k, that they should do it with non-Imperial forces (Orks or Eldar/Ynnaries), but if they do, they should take a new cast origin, with a higher base power level:
- Tech Priest (not meaning that they shouldn’t do a Tech Adept here)
- Sister of Battle (With Power Armour and Faith Magic)
- Primaris Psyker (They are the higher echelons of Psyker available)
- Space Marine
(If need more)
- Scion
- Space Marine variant (Maybe Space Wolf for example)
- Xenos Merc
…
This would be a more standard game setting for 40k, featuring the SM, but not just SM, cause that’s boring
Space Marine 2 will be out soon, chill and wait.
There are no Chaos Marines in the game.
If you want to feel like an Astartes play on Sedition with a bolter and chainsword veteran.
That’d appeal to literally nobody but a small fringe
It’ll be like the universally maligned “truth behind the myth” approach Total War Troy went with that ended up pissing off both historical and fantasy players
We do not. And they have stated that there never will be.
Space Marines are transhuman, for better or for worse, and therefore extremely fast, far beyond capabilities of most players. And powerful. And aimbot
