Excited for Packmasters in Havoc!

This monstrosity is the most oppresive of them all in closed environments, as well as becoming an expoential threats the more enemies you have to take care off, and it’s one of the hardest monstrosities to solo (unless you have 500000000 methods of big stagger like krak vet or book zealot bleh) which forces teams to play together or dump every resource onto him

It’ll be fun

excited to actually learn his moves and fight him for the first time soon too

He’s too well designed to have been stuck there, but I had a lot of fun running down his dogs chasing them in expeditions. Yes you can generate them with mods in the meat grinder, but almost none of his voice lines play if you do and he has so many. Though they need more voice lines for when he aggros, would be awesome if he had challenge lines like the scab captain in the assassination missions.

I also like that you have to poke the armoured dogs on the back to get the weakspot

Sadly I’m most certainly sure they won’t have them in normal missions, just like lieutenants don’t have custom voicelines other than just their grunts when charging their attacks or having their shields broken

Sounds like a good reason to add a new Assassination mission

The twins were a story thing before they added reskins that don’t have any lines but grunts, I’m not sure why there wouldn’t be any for this guy that’s like 30% of his dev blog. He has lines for seeing you when you’re invisible, calling his pack and when his pack dies, along with a bunch of random taunts. I haven’t noticed him taunting Arbites’ hound specifically (the ‘wanna try that with me’ is a generic line thrown out when fighting him, like his one about tox gas, unfortunately not context specific). Its just weird to me that he has no challenge sound or lines when you aggro him (since you need to shoot him or get within 20m to start the fight). He just dashes at you (which does use a line but its usually just a yell or laugh, sometimes ‘gonna skin you alive!’)

Also when fighting him stand close like chaos spawn, even with the havoc action speed I can lock him on the spot. Its actually way easier to do than with a havoc spawn, just be aware that the uppercut will always be followed by a headbutt if you are close enough. If you are closer he doesn’t go for the dash or many tracking attacks, making him way easier to deal with (him swinging his prod knocks his dogs back, so you just leave 1 dog alive to suppress the next dog call and keep him locked on the spot in a dodge dance). When you’re further away his moves are catchier (he has two attacks that are like melee elites where he follows you charging an attack) and harder to dodge when debuffed.

Are they coming to normal missions in the next update?

Yeah, he’s branching out to other modes. Also coming are traitor/cultist ‘vanguard’ units (shield boyz)

However I’m pretty sure this boss will be in the Daemonhost slot since its the same general idea (optional harder boss). They aren’t aggro’d on spawn.

I had a single run where I got to actually fight one without it being instantly deleted, and it was interesting. It’ll be nice to get more opportunities.

In Expedition you can also have normal monstrosities that are not aggro’d until a player comes close, but such thing doesn’t exist in normal missions

yeah but that’s expeditions, not the packmaster. from the packmaster dev blog:

that means you’re supposed to be able to see him, quickly kill his dogs and then fight him. that entire dimension would be gone if he just went ‘rah’ and popped out of a hole in the wall with a patrol of dogs. he’s also the only boss that can’t spawn with aggro in meat grinder, showing that the flag is buried under similar circumstance to daemonhost (get near).

I mean when you Spawn a daemonhost in the psykanium it will be in its resting phase

If you spawn a packmaster, It’ll instantly be aggro, idk where the not aggro thing comes from, I’ll check again just in case

dont other bosses also roam in expeditions? i swear i’ve seen chaos spawns just walk around

i think whoever wrote that line in the blogpost might’ve just been a little confused, i can definitely see it going both ways though. maybe it’d be cool if it worked that way in regular missions too, but to be honest it’d barely matter, nobody cares about patrols nobody is gonna care about a packmaster either, i’ve not seen it present more of a threat than a crusher in expeditions to begin with. if they rebalance em it might be cool though

yeah but that’s also a walking/patrolling animation he has, shared by no monstrosity. it kinda confirms that he uniquely has agitated and unagitated state, and then they mention it in the blog specifically. like I said its right on the dev blog if you wanna read it, which isn’t claiming it to be how bosses work in expeditions but the packmaster himself. none of the bosses meander around the map like the houndmaster does farming aura with his cattle prod over his shoulder.

I just tested it, you’re a 100% right, they do have a detection radius of 15-20 meters

Though you could also be right because there are terror call bosses that attack you instead of needing to be found in expeditions, and very rarely he is one (I swear its 50% dreg champs, 35% scab captains and 15% for packmaster). When this specific circumstance is called by the game he has a pack of dogs already and is coming to getcha.

So he is already in other modes? I’m still only playing expeditions for this godforsaken scrap penance. I can’t wait to be done with it so that I can finally play other modes again.
