Excited for Packmasters in Havoc!

Ah kk. Maybe I’ll have done the penance by then…but maybe not

Packmaster? What Packmaster?

All I’m hearing is

Krak out!

And

Everything’s better with ROCKETS!

he’s a lot tankier than the other monstros to that sort of jazz. I can kill an auric spawn with a single expeditions mortar using the ‘flanking’ bonus from zealot stealth, but that is only 1/2 to packmaster. 66000 HP on auric, 6000 more than plague ogryn.

Yet I still don’t understand why they kept him locked in expeditions for a whole “season”?

Yay…another boss designed in a way it makes certain weapons superior at dealing with it.

don’t worry i doubt anyone at fatshark really understands it either, probably not even the people who decided on it

what does this mean? if anything I think weapons with trash dodge have a better time vs this guy, since his hitboxes are microscopic to dodge state you can keep him locked on the spot easier. dueling sword/shivs/combat knife you often have to dodge to the side to keep him from chasing after his attack because they move so far.

I was thinking more about riposte mechanic shitting all over Demonhosts and twins, while a lot of other setups struggle vs DH, because “game design is hard”.

Havoc = :sleeping_face:

Houndmaster has carapace for his helmet and debuffs you on block, very high HP unlike spawn and more explosives resistance, with less weakspot spiking than burgle or plague ogryn. The riposte is going to leave you very susceptible to getting block broken even it if goes off (+200% stamina cost at 2 prod debuffs). Basically only a lot of heavy staggers on the team can cheese him, which already cheese the entire game so I don’t see how he was supposed to rise to beat that. But in terms of individual boss design I think he’s the best one.

if they swapped some of the freaking constant shielded boss spam in havoc with this guy (replace like 40% of them please) I’d play it more. it feels so damn sloggy whacking on shields for them to regenerate and you whack their shield down before they get up and so on. most tedious part of the experience.

I just hope its better than the sword twin and DH attack “patterns”.

Fatshark “idea” of immersion :person_facepalming:

Also stamina regen debuff…nah I don’t think we agree on what makes a good boss design.

i really miss the ranged type bosses from vt2, wonder why they’re not implementing any. you’d think it would fit darktide great since it has more ranged focus to begin with

there are tons of moves on this guy. he has a jab, an overhead with both hands, a headlong dash, a half-spin sweep he’ll combo into another sweep, an uppercut he’ll combo into a headbutt only if you’re close and like 5 varieties of basic swings when meleeing him. there’s also the elite attack logic on the jab and double-overhead, he’ll follow the player and release the attack in a similar manner. but that jab is very nasty with the havoc action buffs, especially if he gets jab-happy.

DH and sword captain have like 3 attacks total. and his voice lines give me life, especially when he gets mad when you kill his dogs or his taunts when you go invisible.

out of curiosity have you been playing expeidtions solo a lot to get to see that much of him? i didn’t play them a ton but he consistently just got blasted to africa before he could speak, let alone swing his weapon

I honestly don’t hate it that much because the alternatives are auric ‘adventure’ (either carrying beginners or competing for kills with experienced players) and havoc (the same thing but amplified, or you play in a goon squad and have no challenge). This mode is basically just run around and kill stuff until you get bored, and you can run the tempo up very high when you know the resistance triggers (event progressions if they involve bars, patrols killed, unmarked alarmed caches). I usually set the tempo to max at the start and literally hunt this guy down with the spawn call mod. Because he moves so quickly you can chip at him when kiting around the map and its a pretty cool fight running him down and his dogs. I am very addicted to darktide’s movement system though, I’m one of the gooners that discovered slide dodging in the October invite beta.

that’s something i’m gonna try doing before the skitarii patch, good idea

You can also set up some hilarious nonsense with the items. I clipped something wrong (too short) with the xbox DVR by mistake but I had sacrificed a massive mob of elites, 2 scab captains and a packmaster to a single flame barrel. That thing burns for an entire minute and does 800 damage a tick to void shield and like 1600 to unyielding. And after I killed all that stuff the game spawned another packmaster for me to find. Underrated goofy times.

Ok it is confirmed, they act like normal monstrosities in the normal game

They start hunting down players the moment they spawn
