I can already feel the first comment “This is a coop game”. It’s not the point. If you need to fight this thing in a closed environment alone with hordes and his dogs chances are screwed in a high level havoc game. Expeditions didn’t have this problem because you could keep it in an open area and their health pool was meh. Just let him bump you around if you need to reset. The fact that you can’t block when your dodges are gone makes it worse (The most hated part for me). The thing is relentless which is fine. But then you get stun locked indefinitely if you block or get hit once. From there it just steam rolls into a unfun bashing session. And if you make the mistake of focusing only on him you get pounced… yay fun
Lower his health in havoc just a tiny bit (has more health than the plogryn)
The hook attacks shouldn’t electrocute you
Player electrocution time should be reduced drastically (Allow or a reset)
This were my fears when this enemy was announced. But when expeditions came it was managable and easy to take out as mentioned above. But here it just feels like cheapshots the boss. Doesn’t feel like there is an expression of skill killing this thing. Just every one dump their util on this thing until it’s dead.
Edit: Forgot that H40 has +100% enemy attack speed. Auric it’s easy to deal with but in Havoc the attacks are ontop of each other.
You’re right, this is a coop game, so this boss isn’t a problem at all.
I’ve been playing the new Havoc 40 for over a whole damn week, and so far I’ve had 0 wipes caused by Packmaster.
Have you noticed that it’s easier to be staggered? Arbites’ dog can cause it to get stuck in a anti-dog animation every 5 seconds? It is affected both anti monsters and Ogryns damage talent at the same time? Can be easily pushed off a cliff by a Zealot’s book like a Plague Ogryn or a Chaos Spawn?
How’s it even a problem if all 4 of you play as a team?
I’ve had enough of all this endless complaining about the new enemies (and Packmaster isn’t even a new enemy), let’s just enjoy a bit of new content.
Gee, you must be fun at parties <_<. Why do I have to play the game like that? Why do I need a dog, a book, voc, kraks and other stagger utils to be able to defeat a boss. If I could I would kill bosses with a toothpick just for the fun even if it takes century. provided I can do it with skill without bs coming my way.
Look, I understand what you mean. Most of the times this thing is not a problem. Team got it covered. Hence why the title is “Ogryn Packmaster feels horrible to duel against”. I just find this thing not fun to fight as person heavily opt’ing for melee. I got wiped once since it’s in the adventure maps because had to clutch against that thing. I just find it bad game design if you can’t handle a problem without f’u buttons. That’s all
Yea, the boss is not interesting to fight. He’s threatening only because of the stamina/dodge reset debuff. Especially annoying that the debuff applies through parries which makes this mechanic useless against him.
The packmaster debuff actually filters people who don’t belong. There are tons of people who have been riding on how OP and silly the movement burst of dodge is, but if you get hit with the cattle prod you need to use perfect dodges to space the next ones until you recover.
Absolute rocket surgery for Darktide players I know. My bigger issue with them is how the damage is not tuned higher so they are more threatening everywhere and merciless on havoc. A squishy character should get downed by like 3 hits with the goad to no toughness, and the armor dog shouldn’t have a speed-nerf during its pounce.
Packmaster is my favorite fight! I love the idea of a boss spawning leading a unit of dogs. I hope more bosses include this. Lets have Beast of Nurgle spawn with 5 poxbursters or a mutated slug-dog gross. Lets have Plague Ogryn/Chaos Spawn spawn with a new mutated unit of Ogryns.
I love their names and voice lines most of all. Some of them have chaos-style descriptors to sound tough, but they mostly have a naming convention like players use for Ogryns and its hilarious.
Packmaster Jaarg and Blort, absolute perfection. I would add ones like Thunnk and Flakk, and obviously add ‘The Horrible’ to the end of Aggar’s name.
Hello? What kind of elitist speak is this? I clear havoc 40’s with a thunder hammer. As we speak we just got trolled hard by the pack master and a captain and a metric ton of elites and chaff after the drop down (outside) of dark communion. We got shreded one by one because we couldn’t position to cover each other to “team work ” the pack master with all the garbage on the map. 1 guy managed to pick us up but it just slid into a no hope situation with a ritual and 4 bosses. If the pack master wasn’t there that would still have been doable. Every enemy in this game should be duelable(even if it is trading blows) consistantly with skill. Daemon host gets a pass because it’s not a manditory fight(Even if you can kite that thing reliably). THIS IS A GAME. A game should be fun. This is not fun nor rewarding.
If Darktide followed your vision barely anyone would play it because it’s frustrating. You know what send a video fighting this thing with with a thunder hammer or relic blade with h40 debuffs. Throw in elites ranged and melee with vangaurds and chaff. Show me how it is done so I can congrats you. And then gives me a score out of 10 how fun that interaction was.
People will need to be aware of their positioning, the biggest queue about a Packmaster being near is hearing like 5 dogs and armoured dogs barking
This is when all players should consider either pushing into the next point that would be best, or aggro and retreat to a good point to fight it
You can absolutely 1v1 these guys, after some practice I did get better against them alongside horde+dogs helping them
This is the key, as a team move to a better open area
At the beginning I thought the same, but then I ended up liking it
I know at the beginning of the thread you say the issue is duelling them, which is understandable but after practice they’re exciting to fight, a lot more than other monstrosities
The only one I could see maybe working is the HP reduction since carapace head, but the rest nahhh
This is exactly why I was so excited about them being added to the normal game, they’re an actual boss, but that doesn’t block the entire arena like burgle
Chaos Spawn and pogryn are too easy to bully, burgle is entirely dependant on map zones
But these guys, these guys are FUN to fight alongside the 10 ragers and 15 vanguards
I’m sorry but its true. I was practicing tons with this guy because I was so excited for a new monster, and at first I thought the debuff was a terribly overtuned mechanic but then I realized its there to put a big fat punish on messing up dodging to begin with, while giving you no ability to ride it out on block tanking. You can easily dodge all of his combo rotation, even on havoc, with perfect dodges at -2 debuff even with something tragically immobile like thunderhammer or vet power sword. It’s actually something that requires more skill than just auto piloting through levels and will filter some groups, yeah. They will get dropped by it, cry foul and then come here. Evidence:
I’m being ragebaited.. Killed him once alone in the h40 meat grinder with the thunder hammer. Dogs didn’t attack but if they did I would have died. What you, Vror are basically saying is: Mmm, yes this rock takes some time to get use to but if you eat enough of them they become enjoyable. It’s a delicacy only the finest can enjoy.
You are basically saying to 99% of the players to get out of here if they need to fight this boss without help or stagger tools. I cannot voice my frustration I encountered with this enemy enough. It’s not a fun dance dueling this thing. I consider the twins infinitely more fun to duel
No, you’re not. Nobody expected you to automatically dumpster the hardest possible version of a new boss on first iteration. There was actually a similar period with chaos spawn where it was hard to dodge his attacks instead of pushing you everywhere and they filtered people bad. Then it got nerfed to the current thing where the only hazard is the 3-minute long grapple where you get invariably killed by everything going on while it macks on your face unless your team stuns it. Vermintide 2 has it with the minotaur, its pretty obvious the people who just play with maxed block cost reduction and don’t understand dodging when you watch them in cata chaos wastes on the first map pick people off one by one.
‘I can’t automatically do this its impossible’ is a pretty bad yardstick to be calling for nerfs, especially not when most people will have a different opinion (something nicer than get good). Honestly solo killing any boss on havoc 40 should be a nightmare, otherwise where is the accomplishment for getting extremely unnecessarily good to where its basically unhealthy, what else do you have to spar up against? There’s no PVP…
Packmaster need to be nightmare for Arbys and their mastiffs also need some stagger immunity, so yeah I will say this boss need changes and maybe buffs here and there.
Only problem with the packmaster is that it takes so damm long to show up in Havoc after you trigger it’s spawn. You might as well go and put the kettle on whilst you wait for him to make his way to you.
Wow, You are right. I litterly just right dodged him and just left click spammed him with thunder hammer. Took 1 hit that chipped damage (Without the dogs). Thanks for that info. Still not fun to duel though unfortunately
If a difficulty is frustrating to you, even if you can clear it, you still don’t belong there. There are 3 levels of this game skillwise. Fun, sweaty, frustrating. If you get frustrated by the sheer amount of enemies on havoc just go down to auric. I never touched havoc because of this. Maybe I have the skill to clear it but I don’t want to deal with the bs that is there so I stick with auric and damnation.
I like havoc. Usually just play it with friends though. Otherwise I just help randoms get their pants in a 25 or just chill in Auric (Has gotten a bit to easy these days). Just think this boss is annoying to duel. That’s it. I welcome a challenge. And this one is just not fun to face with just a melee weapon. I’ll bring it up again. The twins are infinitely more fun to fight. If all I should to do to beat this boss is dodge right, hit and repeat then that is not interesting. I would just like the option to be able to block/parry the hooks attacks to conserve dodges for other things happening around me etc. And the electrocution effect duration does not allow for reasonable resets. You are litterly electrocuted for 10 seconds. A lot happens in that time
