takes a while to learn how to dodge packmaster’s attacks so you avoid getting debuffed but it’s doable once you understand, moveset kinda reminds slightly the minotaur from vt2.
funny how people were saying was easy as boss, but now that is in normal maps so in closed areas, now magically it’s a problem.
hypno uploaded the dump of this guy’s voice lines (though there is one I have heard that I didn’t hear in this compilation from fighting so many of these guys). how can you not love this ogryn? he has such love and appreciation for his dogs. they’re basically his children. he mourns the loss of every one. well, except for his ‘grrr, got more hounds’ line.
Seems like the Auric version is easy an unskillful to deal with. I don’t think they tested the +100% attack speed from H40 on the Pack Master. Which explains the frustration. The Pack master’s attack speed normally are fast bursts by default. Not a problem on it’s own but with the double speed it’s flailing at mach 5. Still doesn’t change my opinion that this thing is not fun to duel even if they nerf that just a tiny bit for this enemy
I wish the bosses attempted to kill you like the captains, twins, packmaster and plogryn do. Spawn and burgle are all of ‘don’t get grabbed’ and make me groan whenever they appear and get punted one to four seconds later.
At the beginning the shock effect felt bad until that with a little practice, I realized this boss’ attacks are one of the easiest to avoid
So instead of holding block like you’d do against chaos spawn and dodge right when the grab happens, you just Dodge at close range against the packmaster
The attacks are so slow and so telegraphed that it’s easy to not get hit even at high ping on H40 itself
This is why I clarified it’s important to be in a good place to fight them, because this one punishes being cornered hard
So, today I figured out which mod crashed my solo play and tested the Pack Master on H40 solo datatide extensively.
This boss is an antithesis on skill expression. You can dodge his attacks up to a point and you mostly have to keep playing defensively because of his dogs.
Then he has the far reach stab attack and right > left hook swipe attacks, THESE TWO IGNORE IFRAMES. This means that this boss cannot be kited with player skill because the player is GUARANTEED to have the 0 mobility debuff.
The debuff makes it so that you cannot EVER break melee range with this boss and you physically don’t have enough stamina to push or dodge the dogs. From the moment a solo player gets hit with an UNDODGEABLE attack, they cannot recover, unless…
Unless we cheese the pathfinding. Yep. This is what shatfark devs want us to do, they want us to jump over the smallest Atoma fence to kite the boss back and forth and kill it with dot. Very high skill expression, very engaging.
This is the worst enemy combat design I’ve seen since playing Elden Ring. It only exists to make sure a book zealot comes by and you nuke the boss out of existence before the stun wears off.
If this boss was designed this way to punish solo speedrunners, then you’re also ruining the game for ppl who play normally. If this was designed this way because you powercrept the game, then I’m greatly tempted to call you names.
And there are some builds that can solo this boss, I was able to do it on Rampage Scum and Scriers Psyker, but excluding 95% of the builds that are not dedicated powercrept boss removal tools only further hurts the little variety havoc has.
Were you using artificial latency?
Because i was playing a solo auric game against one of these guys and im pretty sure there were no undodgable attacks.
He was more threatening than a plogryn because of his dogs but i did manage to solo him. Havoc he can be very punishing to fight for sure. I love him.
All his moves have microscopic hitboxes when you are in dodge state, just need to time them. I practiced against him a lot with the Havoc modifiers for no reason since I rarely play there, I was just very jazzed about the boss and wanted to see him at his most spammy. The dodge recovery time nerf basically means you have to use perfect dodges (the ones that can be done even at ineffective dodge against allowed moves) if you are debuffed and he’s still all over your grill.
Good design since that mechanic is almost unneeded in game with how the flingy dodges are still available to a lot of weapons after they have no more effective dodges…
