Enemies with leadership buffs

What do we think about a modifier like that?

VT2 has the Beastmen flag bearers, which I always enjoyed.

I suppose encroaching garden acts pretty similarly.

Just saw that post about adding twins to Auric, and started thinking about adding them to Auric HISTG or even as it’s own modifier where they, or bosses in general, gave some kind of leadership buff to surrounding enemies.

The only issue would be that those encounters are already tough, and usually split the team into the boss squad, or boss tank, or boss killer, and others clearing stuff out. That stuff would be even harder to clear out, since you’d have to kill the boss first, but killing the boss sometimes requires things be cleared out (which would be harder).

Hmmm maybe I talked myself out of this one. Still… Leadership buff enemies can be interesting.

Maybe the potential Genestealers might have an enemy with mechanics like that.

They had an event with a radio operator who did that I think. Or did he just summon enemies? I forgot. They removed him anyway

The concept was cool but I don’t think he actually changed the game much, he just either spawned behind the team and was never found or just got killed instantly

They should give the enemies that heal or otherwise buff other enemies a banner or some other thing that sticks up above the crowd. Even if you can’t shoot the banner, it’s a lot more visually satisfying than something just glowing purple.

he was kind of weird special who summoned more specials i think…

Miniature also has a heretic Chieftain with back banner IMO THIS elite below a captain level

In my experience he just got his face bashed in, I never saw him actually do anything.

It was a cool concept but woefully undercooked, it was almost identical to a Scab Gunner that could occasionally summon enemies without any real callsign. Hell even calling it undercooked feels too generous, the meat was so raw that it practically still had a pulse.

In Borderlands 2 there’s a type of enemy called ‘Nomads’ that acted like commanders of their fellow bandits. Depending on their instructions the bandits would either prioritize finding cover in lieu of shooting out in the open, throwing grenades all at once or even bum-rushing with melee weapons to flush out players.

Something along those lines would be a great idea for a leader-type enemy. Imagine a Scab Sergeant or Dreg Preacher not only capable of calling in reinforcements but giving orders to their allies to fight more effectively, give them a unique weapon and moveset (maybe wielding a bolt pistol with a sword for example) and that would actually be a good mainstay enemy.
