Was the game rushed out? Obviously and equally obviously the pushing came from Tencent. Contrary to public opinion, after working for a major Asian company for the past 6 years I can say that patience is NOT their strong suit. With them its all about expediacy and image. As far as Tencent was concerned as long as they got something to show their boss that could be spun as success the future could go to hell.
Equally obvious is that Fatshark made the best of that rotten deal. Instead of dumping what time they had into story, cut scenes, and crafting they put it towards getting the actual game play right and getting the revenue set up to keep the game going. With those in place they can now work on getting the rest done at a sane pace. And as long as that revenue continues to be positive Tencent has to stay off their back for the time being.
Which is a far better situation than a lot of games get. They sink their budget into the flashy things players and marketing types want right now. Then end up with problematic game play that a live team isnât qualified to fix. And that drives away a whole lot more players than delayed crafting
Agreed, but that does not mean that I accept that the game was shipped before it was finished. The story really is the worst I have seen in a video game in a really long time and I donât even play tide games for the story. Theyâd have been better off removing the cut scenes entirely if they werenât even going to try.
As for statements about things being obvious. itâs not to me, and I donât presume to know whatâs going on behind closed doors. The game was shipped incomplete. I donât really care why it happened nor to speculate.
As for cosmetics⌠I still have my Aquilas from the imperial edition. Since cosmetics are rotating I never want to buy anything. I want to see my options and choose what I like best⌠besides⌠I donât want to support devs who cannot even be bothered to ship a finished game.
I really do agree that they prioritised gameplay though. It is solid enough. Minor bugs and warts and wrinkles, but that I accept. Itâs fun to launch dogs into the stratosphere. That crafting is not in the game at launch, however, I donât accept.
Donât. You bought them because you thought they looked cool on a character you want to play and have fun with. The only shame lies on the shoulders of those that thought they could do half a job and get paid in full.
Definitely empathize with this. I, too bought Aquillas for cosmetics. That being said: I feel no embarrassment nor shame in having purchased them, instead I feel that my continued contribution and support of Fatshark was met with aloofness and ill deserves a repeat. So I simply wonât buy anything in the future, unless I feel the game has gotten sufficient (at this point, it needs to feel overwhelming) support in which case I may deign to consider further contributions to FatShark (and Tencent).
Meh, I did all of T1 penances and earned my stupid hat before release. Then did a few of T2 penances, now I rock a mix of those and the Beta helm with the pre-order backpack, itâs a decent look for my zealot. I still have my 2500 coins Iâll likely never spend them out of spite.
There is no reason to be emberassed about cosmetics. Some of them are fine, sure, the clipping is shameful on items you have to pay nearly 1/4 of the base game price for, but Steel Legion cosmetics? Or when they release Krieg? Definitly nice.
However, people should be emberassed of supporting an obviously unfinished buggy game from a dev that had this same exact issue atleast twice with a Tide game.
No âbut I have enough money!â or âI can do what I want with my money!â argument for me here because yes, you are right in theory, but through you spending that money, devs get encouraged to do these nefarious schemes even more in the future.
