It was announced that all who pre-ordered are invited in a ‘‘pre-release’’ beta on November 17th. Will our progress be saved for the final release or it will get wiped?
The prerelease beta should carry over, I think; it’s not really a beta, honestly, it’s more of a preorder incentive. It’s been a very long time and I have the memory of a goldfish so there’s a good chance I’m misremembering, but I seem to recall progress in the last Vermintide 2 beta carrying over to release.
Hopefully. I’m laughing at that “delay the game by 6 months thread” after the new announcement.
Pre-order go brrrrrrrrrrr
Can’t wait for the 17th w00ty woot
You shouldn’t laugh at people’s feedback that has best interest of the game in mind. You may disagree with it but being petty is nothing to be proud of. Childlish attitude. Game release is only in hands of devs, but that doesn’t mean they are right, as multiple failed launches in last decade show. People concerns should be taken into account.
I won’t be coming back here saying I laugh at people that wanted fast release if game will fail at launch. That’s not how mature people behave.
I just hope they will be doing some polishing.
Thanks guys.
The opening post of that thread was literally made by a person who doesnt understand what a beta is and thought that we played the version that is to be released in a month. He also states that he feels melee is bad even though its literally the same as in Vermintide and then talks about the primary complain of basically everyone who wants a delay: Only 4 classes.
None of that is in the best interest of the game as a whole but simple wants from a deluded person.
My man literally almost every game in last decade that had beta proved that “beta version” is pretty much the same as release version. He is not wrong by being suspiscious. Video game industry is like that nowadays. And I am sorry but if he feels that melee is bad than he has full right to feel that way. What? You think only your feeling is correct? And yes only 4 classes is good reason for delay because we should have gotten one more and if you were here during V2 you know that 1 class/quarter is very very unlikely considering Fatshark previous record.
I suggest to learn how to live with other people having different opinion. Might help you in life in future.
Don’t bother, this guy has been going into literally every thread that’s even slightly critical of the game and saying the same boilerplate “don’t you know what a beta is” schlock. It’s sad and more than a little dishonest; additionally, it shows that he doesn’t have any prior experience with Fatshark’s development cycle. Broken betas leading to a broken release are almost a patented process these days, and it takes only a cursory glance at Darktide’s timeline to recognize that this game will be no different. The suspected age of the beta is, as far as I can tell, from around mid-August–for the sake of convenience, we can say it’s two months out of date. Anyone who was around from at least the midpoint of Vermintide 2’s content release life could tell you that Fatshark is notorious for their absolutely glacial development pace. They can do excellent work, and given enough time they’ll turn the game into a masterpiece, but the emphasis there falls on the phrase “given enough time.”
Assuming the devs have been improving on the beta’s build nonstop, that’s still only three months between the beta build and the release build. Three and a half months if you want to be really generous and say “the 11/17 release doesn’t count, you need to wait until the official release on the 30th!” Fatshark takes longer than that to release a single new career in V2; anyone who thinks the release will be drastically different from the beta is, as @theppekausen so kindly said, a “deluded person.”
I may not be a beta expert or anything like that but the idea of second beta for only those who preordered seems a bit weird to me.
I have no idea what they are planning to fix between 17-30 of November but knowing Fatshark they probably wont event get to work in such a short period of time. Anyways I’m suprised. I belive they should try to invite as many people as they can (so idk, maybe stress test servers or something? As I said I’m no beta test expert) and not sell as many preorders as they can.

Nothing. Maybe some major bugs that make something unplayable. But that’s it. Rest of the game ships as it is. They are too desperate to delay agian.
I think it’s a decent idea. It’ll give them a chance to test out something closer to the actual gold release (what we had in the last beta was a few months behind) and hopefully identify any really serious issues that would otherwise cause big launch day problems.
And that’s something only people who preorder can do? I mean only they can spot rally serious issues? Still, the best strategy would be to invite more people so they could provide more feedback.
Anyone can do it, of course. It sounds like your issue is more that it’d only be available to preorderers?
I pray that they will have improved performance some by then. Notably, the loading times for the Hub and server connection issues. You couldn’t just hop on the PC and play a quick game or 2 like in VT2. It took what felt like forever in comparison.
Everytime the servers sneezed and kicked you out, it felt like the whole Hub got unloaded from the RAM or something.
Yes, that’s something I don’t understand. At this point it would be better (I might be wrong) to let as many people in as they can. Test those servers? Maybe there is another reason than trying to sell more preorders?
It might have something to do with progress carrying over in the pre order beta? Maybe having that feature while players are running around in it without owning the game (perhaps therefore not having an official account for the game) complicates how that feature is coded so it makes it simpler just to keep it to people who’ve pre-ordered?
I’m just spit balling here.
It could just be that they want to limit feedback to people who had decided that they actually wanted to continue playing the game after the first beta.
As for progress carrying over, it’s going to be dependent on whether or not they’re using the “production” databases for the live version or if it’s going to be separate, like for the previous beta.
Thanks! Both those anwsers seem plausable. Getting earlier start thanks to preorder is something known (Guild Wars 2 did something similar if i remember correctly) so if our progress would be kept it would make sense.
Feedback limit is somehow less convincing but trying to prioritize feedback from people who are that commited (so they preordered) is also something they might have in mind.
It’s also an incentive to preorder and staggers the launch a bit. So I guess they expect to get more preorders and less strain on launch day.
Of course they’re missing out on potential feedback, but really grievous issues will be identified and hopefully fixed. Two weeks is not enough time to do more than the most important stuff.
It really is an earlier release for preorders but by calling it a beta they limit expectations and get a chance to avoid the big bads on release date.
Not a bad move IMHO.
Do we have an official yes or no on the “progression carrys over” yet?
