This not gonna lie. Anyone can play with the worst equipment and still destroy on a Damnation. (Although it had Auric level spawns? Don’t ask me why…) Me and a friend did that today and I was using a terrible weapon in terms of literally anything else. Yet we still cleared it as a duo. Skill triumphs over equipment and I really want the challenge no matter the weapon I’m using.
And for this alone you’ve earned my respect.
This is simply something that shouldn’t be touched up on. Its only making them better at their jobs. What happens if you give a zealot all ranged perks but no ranged ability… its just a bad idea to touch up on. And I’m glad someone agrees.
Correct a lot of skilled players if they use an insane weapon its just gonna be easy. Its better to make it closer to a team effort and have skill correctly back up the equipment.
You do know how weak spot bonuses are calculated right? It is NOT +30% damage in any circumstance. Absolute best case weapons it’s maybe close to +20% when hitting the head. Low headshot multi weapons it’s probably less than +10% damage.

I would say the mobility is the biggest problem. In a game where vast majority of players is using either knife or dueling sword, it’s hard to pick anything else just to keep the pace.
One-shoting crusher with less effort than with energized power sword is also a little bit too much.
Now, I don’t really have an opinion on the balance of this weapon at all (I don’t use it, and as long as there’s enough killin’ for me too I don’t mind), but if psykers are afraid that a nerf will make the weapon nonviable for them for operator-specific reasons, FS could always just make the change NOT affect psykers.
I mean, all they would need to do is add a blue particle effect to certain attacks and be done with it. It wouldn’t be the only weapon to behave differently in the hands of a psyker, and I’m surprised no one seems to have mentioned that yet (At least according to a quick search, this post is getting too dang long for someone new to parse, so I imagine a lot of the same arguments are just getting repeated over and over again)
Hell, judging from that one blog post where FS discusses 2Hander animations, they could even nerf this weapon for zealots specifically by just changing the attack animations to be less disciplined, since last I checked they were not specifically trained in swordsmanship and often let their zeal get the best of them.
I ain’t saying that’s what they should do, but they could do it. I’m willing to bite the notion that the same weapon could behave differently for different operators due to lore-friendly-ish reasons, and if folks are really hung up on the “This weapon wasn’t designed for this Operator, only Psyker should have it!” argument, this could be a solution that would allow the other operators to still keep the weapon.

I think the mark V DS is good right now for psykes, but maybe change mark IV to be a swipe cleaver only or lower the 2nd attack damage a little. I definitely like DrHammer’s suggestion of instead of outflat nerfs, keep it psyker and maybe change the attacks for Zealots and Vets to not be as good without severe skill involved.
I just got the image of it on Oggy poking it like a violent cocktail skewer
