Fatshark is unfortunately consistently demonstrating that whoever is in charge of stuff like this and matchmaking concepts in general lacks the abstract thought required to actually understand what effects their implementations will have.
It’s not that hard to do. It just requires the ability to conceptualize “how would I feel if everyone lost attempts upon losing?” and then to imagine this situation.
- I can imagine that someone would intentionally grief the entire team this way by throwing. This might not be very common, but it nonetheless enables it.
- I can imagine that it would lead people to leave on the loadout screen when they don’t like what others run, effectively abandoning ship while it’s still possible to do so without losing the attempt. This will be extremely common and obnoxious, as it’ll enforce the meta further.
- I can imagine that it would suck for 4 man groups who just want to mess around. There’s no point punishing a 4 man group that likes playing H40 with high risk builds. What is the point? It’s not like completing a H40 gives major rewards. Rewards are literally timegated, so it doesn’t matter if they beat it once or try with silly builds 20 times a week. They’ve already proven they can do it, so it achieves nothing in this hypothetical.
- I can imagine that it makes partyfinder more pointless than before. Now that everyone’s assignment is at risk, why can I only see the assignment of the one guy who put it in? People will now have to manually compare their assignments and decide who hosts theirs without any UI elements that let them just see eachothers assignments, which will be annoying and cumbersome. It’ll make the partyfinder feel even more lacking.
- I can imagine that H40 players won’t join missions as much anymore. If I want to keep my 40 mission for later in the week when I can play with friends, I probably won’t be playing any Havocs until then, not even any 20s for fun, because I would risk deranking my 40 mission and basically dropping out of one of our possible H40 missions for our team later in the week. Meaning this change would negatively affect Havoc player engagement. This is giving people a reason NOT to play it.
I came up with most of these on the spot. I can not think of a positive. All it takes is engaging with the hypothetical.
Meanwhile, the Fatshark dev in charge of this can’t imagine any of these hypotheticals. All he can think is “but I joined and lost a Havoc and didn’t derank this morning”
