Does surge(2 shots on crit) work for electrostaff?

I’m trying to figure out if the surge blessing(2 shots on a crit, +5% crit ranged crit chance) actually works on the electrokinetic force staff…?

I think it only applies to the basic LMB / primary attack. Not the charged lightning attack.

Ahhhh thats too bad :frowning:

It is a shame that it doesn’t affect the charged attack but the M1 is very strong if you build around it and the surge blessing is an important part of that build.

But the +crit-part of that blessing works with the charged attack … at least that

It works on the left click but not the right click. Which is in my opinion kind of silly.

I guess the logic is, that it only works on projectiles, because cast animations of attacks that create projectiles, end with the projectile coming into existence.
This includes the charged attack of the voidstrike staff.

The secondary attacks of the other staffs come with a cast animation thats last for the duration of the attack.
If the surge blessing would create a second attack for those staffs, it would cause an overlap of casts, or would have to chain cast animations.

Or maybe it is for balance reasons. Who knows.

Are you sure of this?
I can’t see two projectiles. And @Elodie said that the projectiles have a short delay between the two.

It would be too much for this staff considering others have not that.

Yes it still works. They come out in very quick succession, so you have to flick your reticle, while firing the projectile.
It is very easy to test, if you take the true aim talent for guaranteed crits and then just launch your shots into a distant wall.

The surge blessing has always worked for both attacks of the voidstrike staff.
That is why there have been many bug reports and other posts, asking for the blessing to also work for the charged attack of the trauma staff.
And now, since it is also available for the surge staff, it was only a matter of time before somebody would ask about the blessing’s interaction with that staff’s charged attack.

But i think voidstrike+surge shenanigans already got nerfed, because afaik, true aim used to be able to trigger multiple times per attack.
So you shot 2 projectiles per crit, which could each do a few headshots and then you got your next guaranteed crit right away.

it is. it gives players more incentive to spam plasma balls.

Yeah as said, Surge (blessing) only works on primaries but it does work for all of them. But the only secondary it works on is Void. Likewise primaries aren’t always made equal. Empyric Shock (new mid-left talent: +6-30% warp dmg taken by victims of primary) doesn’t work for Purge at all. Penetration of the Soul (new bottom-left talent: +10% rending when 75%+ peril) doesn’t work for what seems like most things things either, but I haven’t tested that extensively.

Imo all of that sucks tbh. Trauma in general has too many blessings that don’t work or make no sense. And Surge blessing working for Void secondary but not the rest isn’t just confusing & misleading, but that along with Empyric Shock just further sets vanilla players apart from those using a primary spam macro.

But it is what it is.

To be honest, I don’t think that secondary fire should get 2 projectiles on any staff.

Anyways, until that (that will surely never happen or be discussed several years by fatshark teams), I will use that to see what I can do with a voidstrike staff.
And considering this thread, what I can do with surge staff.

Personally I think the Surge blessing should work on secondaries too, with the necessary balance changes ofc. In general, blessing & talent descriptions & function should always be consistent. IF something doesn’t work for some staff or attack type, they need to make it obvious. Not like the stuff I said above and more.

I realize it’s not this simple, their earlier patch notes & commentaries have made it very clear the code has a lot of stuff that isn’t so easy to change. Like how they needed major changes just to add Auric boards, bc difficulties used to be so dynamic there was no way to separate the mods & other stuff between T1 & T5 etc. Afaik shared blessings are also literally equal with no way to adjust them on a per-weapon basis, save for creating an entirely new version of the blessing. Still.
