Do you think power swords are too powerful?

While dueling sword exists no other melee weapon is “too strong” tbh

Strong agree.

Heavy Eviscerators, thank me later

It doesn’t work all the time…
At contrary, with PS, it works all the time

The Power Swords are not too powerful, especially with the recent bug that Power Swords and Thunder Hammers have experienced.

The bug I am speaking of is where you power up the Special, and the Charge doesn’t hold as long as it used to, especially if you get hit by an enemy. The hit from an enemy has caused the Special charge up to cancel.

Power Swords are intended to cut through the toughest of enemies, and even on Auric Damnation & Maelstrom it may take more than one or two hits to even defeat a Crusher. That becomes risky as a Crusher can strike you, and even if you dodge, you may get Crushed lol. That is, especially on those levels where there is multiple Crushers striking in consecutive successions, and get cornered as you are dodging.

In recent games I have sometimes opted for using Assault Chainsword in place of Power Sword as it manages to be swift and deadly, then I go for using my ranged weapon to kill Crushers and most Elites. If my ranged is not powerful enough in the build I choose to use, I compensate that with the Krak Grenades.

100% sometimes im not getting the full use out of power cycler, which makes the weapon feel terrible, dropping it from probably mid-low A tier down to D tier suuuuper fast whenever the bug occurs.

It also doesn’t make sense lore-wise. Never encountered anywhere in the universe where it was implied a power weapon had to be reactivated constantly after every 1-3 hits. The power field should honestly just be constantly on, and then it’s dmg value adjusted in a way that doesn’t leave it OP and doesn’t leave it feeling too weak.

Power weapons should excel at armor penetration generally. To not also make it too strong at wide-cone horde clear, make it function like dueling sword or Deimos force sword, with most attacks being forward thrusts or overhead swings, instead of left-right sweeps.

How do you sheathe it when it’s always on? Or do you just endlessly keep doing the emperors work?

Agreed, it becomes so frustrating to where it seems like changing blessings until its fixed would benefit, and in the meantime Chainsword is my fun go to… ofc also knowing currently how Dueling Sword and Combat Knife are most others go-to choices

You keep it powered on until you need to sheathe it, duh.

How do Chainswords not get completely clogged up by viscera after one kill? :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I lucked onto a high-level power-cycler blessing pretty early, and the PS became my main vet weapon.
At this point I feel a little guilty about using it - it’s easy to use and powerful, if not very interesting. I still often use it anyway. Because it’s easy and powerful. Oh, and I enjoy the special effects.

I don’t know about “too powerful,” but I wouldn’t mind a nerf.
I would certainly welcome a re-tooling of how it’s “power” is expressed.

you power it on when you pull it out and power off when you put it away.

Low level disruption field, duh, it all slides right off.
And hungry, hungry ogryns.

Teflon coating!

I think it’s in the perfect place tbh, and very unique as far as weapons go.

They were beyond ridiculously OP back when the game released and took almost a full year’s worth of constant and massive nerfs to eventually get roughly to the place where they are now. For the past year they’ve been very balanced, ever since 2023 Oct and the class overhaul.

Power Swords are easily the most binary of all melee weapons out there: Ridiculously powerful offensively, yet atrociously bad when it comes to defense. This imo is why their balance can be tricky to see.

In a good team and when things are going well, that PS is going to cleave through everything from hordes to crushers like butter, and it’ll definitely look completely OP. But the moment you get surprised, interrupted, or driven to defense by overwhelming numbers and don’t get that opportunity to power it up and recover, you’re going to buckle like a deck of cards and likely die in short order.

That’s why I don’t like the weapon myself. On T5+ pubs the best weapons aren’t the ones that shine when things are going well, they tend to be the ones that shine when things are NOT going to plan. That’s why all my strong builds tend to go with stuff like the knife, DClaw, DSword or Force Sword. But honestly I think that’s a good thing. This asynchronous balancing is one of the main draws of DT to me.

So another second added to swap speed? On a class where people already rather die than pull out their primary weapon? No, I don’t think that’d work well.

What? No, goober, it should just auto power on and off when it’s pulled out or put away, no animation… why would you think people would want something that deliberately delays it?

if you think flipping a switch should take a full second instead of just being part of the equip motion, that’s your problem, not mine. Are you even actually raising a point or are you just being a goober for the sake of being a goober?

It has to have some downside, you can’t just instantly pull it and cleave through everything without limitations.
