I seem to see a lot of 40k media out there where an imperial ship has its own tech priest on board to act as a sort of chief engineer. Like Hadron in Darktide. But it’s just a tech priest and a bunch of mostly regular humans onboard. Do the tech priests miss being with their comrades? Do the other machines keep them company? Are there more mechanicus types somewhere out of site maybe that they can chew the fat with?
Most Techpriest that are on ships are somewhat outsiders to the Tech Cult. Now all of them are individual so some would have it harder than other.
Also most Tech Priest have some sort of Skitarii Bodyguard cohort or Tech Cultist and Adepts following them
To add onto what @Heretical_Cactus said, they’re almost never actually alone. Even if they’re separated by a fair bit of distance, I’ve read them having a closed communication and information sharing system that they’re constantly in touch with. Not system wide from what I’ve read, but enough that they could at least be on opposite ends of a miles long ship and still be talking with each other, while suffering through conversing with the meatbags in front of them.
If you mean the Noosphere it’s more like a WiFi than anything else. It’s not long range either
I know that the Noosphere was able to reach between a SoB convent and a hidden research base that was a couple of hours drive away from it, and I’d consider that long range.
I also know that they’re able to send emotions, snarky comments, and full blown discussions while being stone faced in front of others, so it feels a bit more then WiFi.
Ah ok so there are some others around somewhere then. That’s a relief, being on an interminable voyage with only meatbags around sounds grim.
Apart from the rejects rerolling perks ad nauseam in front of the store, I do believe that there are Tech-Priest, Cogitators, Servitors etc. belonging to Mechanicus faction aboard Mourningstar.
If you think about it, Mourningstar is most likely an ancient construct, which only exists, because the devoted Mechanicus members tended to it with religious vigor not over centuries, but millenia. There is even a whole class of ubiquitous Tech Priests maintaining the most basic and therefore most important imperial technology called Enginseers.
I am pretty sure Hadron has some comrades close by. Her temper comes most likely from the fact that she needs to communicate with some motile 80% water protein shells without being able to use the superior Lingua-Technis or Noosphere. A typical Skitarii is literally mind-synced with a Tech-Priest 24/7, our varlets lose the sight of Servo-Skull in a 3m long tunnel.
