DLSS Auto doesn’t do what it should, which is switch between Ultra Performance and Quality depending on the framerate.
By testing it, I found out that it only sticks to Performance, even if you have more than enough frames to go for a higher resolution DLSS Balance/Quality, or if you don’t have enough frames and need to switch to a lower resolution/Ultra Performance. I updated DLSS manually to the newest version, 3.7.1, and the game looks far better now. I recommend everyone do this, but the Auto function still doesn’t do what it’s supposed to do.
Even with the framerate capped at 30fps, I can clearly see that DLSS Auto is still going for Performance mode and not at least Quality, which my 4070 is clearly capable of handling.
I even lowered the resolution to 1080p to see if DLSS Auto would still stick to Performance, and it does. Why even have that option if it’s just exactly the same as DLSS Performance?
A good DLSS Automatic settings, would work and give me the option of a framerate target.
How this game runs like now, this would be a great solution for many problems, including ray tracing settings.
Auto doesn’t mean that it’s dynamic, the only thing it means is that we select quality based on your resolution.
Even if I was not the latest dev to touch this code i’m fairly certain this is correct since the feature has been developed in collaboration with Nvidia.
If there is quality updates in a newer SDK, this will be included in the game when we update it. But I doubt that the difference has anything to do with auto.
There is alot of dependencies to resolution. For example we TAA etc sample last frame to handle noise and the code needs to handle then that last frame was another resolution. We don’t support this yet and likely not for Darktide since we have some technical depth that we need to resolve before we can get a nice solution for this.
we are aiming for FSR 3 in order to support frame generation, but since you are running the game on a Nvidia 4K series I assume you already are running the DLSS version of this.
