DLAA would be awesome

Dear Team,

It would be awesome if high end gamers got DLAA.
Since DLSS is already in the game as well, I am surprised DLAA isn’t already as well.
Is it the integration process different?

Kinds regards

In our RTX 4090 review, we found that DLSS 3 was able to deliver significantly higher frame rates than DLSS 2. In Cyberpunk 2077 at 4K with ray tracing set to the max, turning on DLSS 3 yielded nearly 50% more frames than just using DLSS 2; compared to not using DLSS at all, DLSS 3 had over three times the frame rate.

You wouldn’t want DLSS 3.0 in a 'Tide game due to the latency it adds.

DLAA is also entirely different from DLSS 3.0, it‘s the DLSS algorithm applied to the native image, whereas the other is Framegen.

You seem to be a confused, DLSS is an upscaler, it’s not framegen, they are 2 entirely separate things, DLSS doesn’t add latency, framegen does.
You can use DLSS and DLAA without using framegen.
I agree with asking for official DLAA support (which I’d also like to see, that’s how I ended up in this thread), which is not DLSS, it’s in the name, Deep Learning Anti Aliasing vs Deep Learning Super Sampling.
As such DLAA isn’t “entirely different” it’s almost entirely the same thing, just using a different input resolution (the only part you had right), that’s literally the only difference.

It’s a shame they still haven’t added official support for this, even though they added support for DLSS 4, the new transformer model and the new framegen model.

It depends on how you look at it. Up scaling the rendered image takes time, so technically additional latency. However, if rendering a 1080P image takes 15ms, and rendering a 720P image takes 10ms, and up scaling the 720P to 1080P takes an additional 2ms, then it technically reduces latency.

They’re not saying yes yet, but they did wink. 1.5.4 breaks overlays - #21 by Axloss

Also if you didn’t know, you can force DLAA (or any resolution percent for that matter) in the Nvidia App. That’s what I’m doing and it looks wonderful.

Yup DLAA miles better than DLSS Quality at somewhat bigger impact on GPU usage.

DLSS

DLSS does add “display” latency, which I can’t quantify due to upscaling delay to generate per frame basis. DLAA has it’s own delay of processing time before presenting each frame.

However if not capping FPS and DLSS increases your frame rate then it reduces input latency. This is why esports players never cap their frame rate and let it run past the limit of their monitor refresh rate and put all graphics to lowest. So even if you have 60Hz monitor, running 120FPS gives no visual difference, but there is input latency benefit.

But really the display latency cost is of smaller margin and compensated by more decrease of input latency leading to “overall” lower total latency given good FPS gains of using it.

Frame Generation

Look at what happens if you cap your FPS and use FG. The higher the MFG x2, x3 etc setting the higher it increases input latency because you’re forcing the game to render at lower “native” frame rate each time.

The graph suggests to uncap your frame to maintain lower input latency true. But visually jarringespecially Darktide with FPS dips up and down without consistently. Also random mismatch of FPS vs mouse responsiveness

FG - Good for slow adventure games. Not good for fast paced games requiring fast response and reactions in game

So they’re opposite. DLSS increases frame rate past the cost of display latency of upscaling then it decreases input latency. But FG, turn it on and cap say 120 FPS and start using MFG x2 onwards etc then your input latency increases because you’re forcing lower native FPS.

I mean Darktide resembles fast paced FPS game like Apex Legends, Overwatch in movement, precision, aim, reaction etc

So if people really want maximum advantage

No gsync
No vsync
Native rendering with no upscaler i.e. DLSS
No Frame Generation
Texture quality only has impact on VRAM usage
Dump all graphics to lowest
Play at 1080p if you want for more FPS
Nvidia Reflex - On

Get 250-300FPS with still massive FPS dips because of this game i.e. explosions.

You got yourself lowest display latency and lowest input latency.
